Yes, I was a mild fan of George Bush but disagreed with a number of his policy's This book was very enlightening. Awesome since George Bush read it!
You must read this book to understand what really happened during his presidency. It is always easier to criticize than it is to take decisions. In this book President Bush explains how each and every decision was carefully done based on facts and extensive legal and research background. A patriot who takes pride for keeping America safe he took the heat for bad decisions done by other people like the Governor of Louisiana during Katrina or those who failed to see that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were not doing so well. Bush is a very smart man but is portrayed as being not so smart by the main stream media. This book shows that he was a wise commander and chief. I agree with him. History eventually will recognize his merits in an unbiased way in the future. Listen to President Bush express his love to this country, his devotion to keep it safe, his beliefs about God is an inspiration to all of us.
The book is a limited memoir focusing on key decisions that President Bush made while in the White House. It is not a full memoir or complete history of his presidency or how he got there. I had for more day to day, behind the scenes insight. While I did not fully get what I was looking for, the book has its merits.
For insight into specific decision points (middle east peace, 9/11, Iraq, Afghanistan, financial crisis, etc.) it is refreshing to get some insight from the central figure in those events. For this I found the book intriguing. A fine example of this is the handling of the Katrina aftermath. I learned some things from the book that were not readily made known by the media.
Ultimately, I believe that historians will be kinder to President's Bush's presidency than the popular media was in 2009. I believe he will have his renaissance, just as Truman, Nixon and Reagan did. This book is the first salvo to that end.
It was straight to the point. It is really captivating.
It never gets boring.
When a man tells Bush to do what ever it takes to bring justice after the 9-11 attack.
A Presidency Full of Challenges.
Yes, I love this book I've read it and listened to it I thought it was wonderful specially hearing it in the presidents voice
I served under President Bush in the fight against Terrorism wonderful book explaining what he was thinking and why he made the deiscion he did loved this book would recommend it to everyone.
yes I listened to this book over two days
Whether a fan or a detractor of George W. Bush this will be an interesting listen. Most often we hear the stories of our leaders as a jumbled timeline wherein the reasons for decisions are lost. This book take a refreshing approach of dealing with a single topic without mixing them up with other incidents.
Good decisions, bad decisions at least now an explanation for "why" of the decision that was made.
This is an interesting account and behind the scenes look at a Presidency that not only shaped the county, but the world.
First things first, I am not a George W Bush supporter. I do not look back on his presidency as a great time for the country. However, I do enjoy this book very much. Listening to George W. explain his major decisions and the resulting fallout, gives me a new appreciation for what it takes to lead this country. The book also reminds me that most of what we hear, right or left wing media, is manipulated to steer us in a certain direction.
After listening to this book, some of my opinions have changed and most of my negative feeling for this president have become more neutral. Regardless of your political orientation, this is a priceless opportunity to live a few historic moments with the 43rd president of the United States of America. Loved it.
If you are a conservative, you will really really enjoy this book. It is as simple as that. Many of the doubts and questions I had were answered complete in this book. And Bush actually reads it to you, a very nice treat.
