I bought this for my husband during our pregnancy days when we were "dividing and conquering" the books on pregnancy and parenting. It would be an understatement to say he loved this one. I heard him quoting passages to family and friends, and lingering in the car after he pulled into the driveway. He wants to gift this book to all his parent-to-be friends and is keeping his set of CDs in the car for future re-listening.
What he liked most was how much hard science goes into the recommendations in this book. And I have to agree that this sets this book apart from many other parenting books out there.
Really a great purchase and one you'll find informing your parenting decisions right from the start (there's good info starting from being good parents during pregnancy through later years). Easily digestible with nuggets you'll be drawing on for years to come.
Author Medina does a wonderful job at presenting parenting "must do's" which everyone should know. He provides information which will help you to raise an intelligent, well adjusted and happy baby and child. What I like most about this book is that everything he presented was backed by hard data and he sites the published scientific literature throughout his book.
Could get a little technical occasionally, but he proves that all this is backed up by actual studies. This is good info about all the bogus information out there about most baby products. I am going to put this book to use in raising my two kids! Great Job John!
Great baby advice
Practical guidance on how to give your baby a good start in life
Good use of expression to make it interesting
The best thing about this book is that it is based on research, not on opinions. I have listened to this audiobook at least 20 times.
The audio version allows you to hear the authors love for the subject which helps you focus on the vast amount of information being provided that is technical in nature. Reading it I think I would have glazed over and given up a lot earlier.
Mr. Media's performance and understanding of learning makes this educational and insightful tool enjoyable.
That children grow adults, adults do not grow children.
Must buy for anyone interested in learning why humans do what they do and how to get along better. Can't wait to start his other book!!
I liked how it seems like each chapter starts with a promise, presents the big picture... then goes into the details (supporting claims by studies & real-life examples).. then ends by summarizing the key concepts of that chapter.
It has plenty of tips on raising a smart kid. Recommended for new parents.
Yes I've listened to it twice already while the wife was pregnant, I wanted to make sure I did not miss anything. I will most likely listen again due to my long commute.
I can't wait till my little girl is old enough to 'draw on cardboard boxes with a fresh box of crayons', so simple yet it opens new imaginative worlds.
I never heard of tools of the mind, really good stuff to look into.
I did listen to it again! Right after I finished it the first time. I wanted to listen for the other books he referenced and details I might have missed.
I liked how it challenged me to be a better mom, wife and person in general, yet did not make me feel like I had to
No I have not, but I thought he was great.
I liked a few of the stories he told relating to real life parenting.
I highly recommend to other caretakers of kids, not just the parents. Ex: Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, Babysitters...
