Michael Caine gives his most personal and heartwarming performance yet as he tells his life story, and what a story it is. Rising out of poverty to become a beloved movie star who's life's work has touched millions. If you have enjoyed Mr. Caine's films and characters you will love his story and no one is more qualified to tell it than Michael himself.
Thank God for a mother who read to me all the time. If it were not for her I would not leave the house without an iPod.
I enjoyed the book The Hollywood. There are a lot of great stories mentioning familiar and famous movie stars, Cary Grant among them. Michael Caine is as entertaining in the audio book as he is on film. I listened to this book during a run of insomnia and I could not only hear him smiling but visualize him there talking to me. You will not learn anything new or scandalous here. You will be entertained by a great actor telling great stories.
So, I really stepped out of my usual reading with this audiobook but I heard an interview with Michael Caine talking about this memoir and he's just such a joy to listen to that I thought I'd give it a shot. It was definitely worth the credit. Caine is such an engaging person. He doesn't get mean or ugly with any person and I'm sure with as long as he's been in Hollywood, he could tell some stories that would make people look bad. He's a class act and exactly how I imagine a real knight would be in his elder years. On top of that, Caine does a wonderful job narrating the story. It's like you're sitting in his living room, drinking tea and eating scones and he's telling you stories. I loved it.
It is great to hear Michael Caine telling his own story. He shares many stories about his now famous friends and talks about all my favorite Caine movies (The Man Who Would Be King, Death Trap, etc...). I love the story of how he met his wife and their ongoing love story. The anecdotes about being on location and the various parts he has played make me want to revisit each movie. And it doesn't hurt that Michael still has that sexy voice!
If you enjoy Michael Cane , you will love this book. I downloaded simply because he was reading it and loved it all the way to the end.
His lovable accent and personality.
This book takes you back in time to follow the career of an actor who I believe is under appreciated by my generation (born in the 70's).
Nothing comes to mind
It's like you are having a conversation with Michael Caine and he is telling you stories from his past. You can feel his passion.
This autobiography takes you back in time to Hollywood when things were simpler and more complicated. I now want to go back and watch some of Michael's earlier works that put him on the map. This was truly a joy to listen to. I hope audible comes out with an unabridged version of Michael Caine's first autobiography, What's It All About.
Just love the anecdotes
I did but only because I didn't want to stop
Funny and a joy
I love books and I don't like to listen to the radio on the way to work. Now I can listen to books instead! I am in heaven.
I did not read the print version, but I enjoyed Michael Caine's reading his own words.
I liked the whole book.
I listen while driving to and from work daily. It is perfect, and it helps me keep to the speed limit.
It is like having a conversation with Michael Caine....a wonderful and insightful ride. His insights and stories are delightful. A life well lived.
I'm not one to clamor for celeb "tell alls" or autobiographies, but I was looking for a change of pace and thought, why not? I really enjoyed this book. I'm too young to remember Mr Caine's earlier movies, but I found his humility refreshing and the stories he tells interesting and funny. My favorite part of the book, however, was listening to him laugh as he retold humorous anecdotes from his past. It just adds a charm to the book that made for a nice listen.
