Molly Harper has written yet another charming, funny and perfect story. I laughed out loud! AND Amanda Ronconi was magnificent again.
Tell us about yourself! I love to read or listen( audio), nothing abridged ,I want every word the author penned that is what I want.
The rude awakening
The main character was my favorite because once she found out what was really going on ,she handled her business .
She kept it fast moving and perky
I don't quite agree about how the book ended. Based on the authors ending the tag line would be love conquers all.
I would have enjoyed it even more if at the end she was alone for a while. I believe you need space between relationships, get to reconnect with the essence of who you are and what you want. She went from her mothers house to her husband's house. The short time in the cabin was not enough. She found a new love interest while she was out there, but by the end of the book they are moving in together .nothing wrong with finding love again but no moving in so quickly.
For every woman who has considered some form of vengeance, this story takes it to a whole other level with riotous laughter and humility.
Lacey represents every woman with a cheating spouse or boyfriend. She is so much smarter than she gives herself credit and she spent years selling herself short. It's refreshing to hear her self discovery and forgiveness and figure out what type of relationship she really wants and needs with humor and eventually grace.
The Southern accents were dead-on. The delivery of punch-lines were perfection and moving from character to character was flawless.
Lacey of course...but I wanted to kick BeBe's butt over and over again and that made her memorable in a good and bad way.
I love books and love to get lost in the fantasy. I'm always looking for a new good story to bury myself in. :)
This story was a great listen! Typical Molly Harper except there are no supernatural people in this story (I think every other book I've read or listened to by her has had supernaturals in it).
Lacey was married to a man named Mike who basically took her for granted and cheated on her. When she left him with a bang everyone basically made her life hell so she escapes up to her cabin in the woods. While up there she meets Monroe. He's a writer and very surly. They're like oil and water at first but slowly they become friends....and then more than friends. This is all great but Lacey is still sensitive from the issues with her husband and keeps pushing Monroe away.
I really liked Monroe. Of course, the description that he looks like Hugh Jackman didn't hurt at all...Yum!!! He's gruff and grumpy but once he warmed up he was just wonderful and I think he's someone I'd like to know in real life. I think I'll be having some sweet dreams of having a Monroe of my very own. ;)
Lacey has some ups and downs with Monroe and things aren't helped by the fact that her (ex)friends, her soon to be ex-husband and his mistress all seem to be out to make her life harder. Her mother and brother are supportive to a point but sometimes support can be a hindrance in itself. On top of this, she comes to a realization that she needs to grow up some before she can truly move on with her life.
As I said, this is a great book. Molly has such a strong and humorous voice that comes through in her books. I love reading (listening to) her books because even when dealing with stuff like divorce she can still make the story fun to read. As always, Amanda Ronconi did an awesome job on the narration! I'd highly recommend this book. 2 thumbs up! :D
I'd never read Molly Harper before so I didn't know what to expect. Her sense of humor drew me in immediately. Well written. Well performed. Absolutely hysterical. Well worth the time and money!
It was written to reflect real life, real emotion and the main character acted on her emotions the way the rest of us wish we could. Molly wrote words to shadow my own thoughts and experiences. The love scenes didn't hurt anything eitther, amazing all around!
I'd put it right up there at the top. You don't even realize time is passing and I've laughed so hard. Love her style!
I don't write reviews all the time and enjoy most all books I select, but I'm soooo going looking for everything else she writes.
I enjoyed this book very much, mostly because Ms. Harper's sense of humor is a sharp as a shark's tooth. Any potential the characters had for sliding into caricature was carefully avoided, but there WERE some sharply drawn archetypal characters. Molly Harper is a great story-teller and the highest compliment I can give any author is that one of his or her books makes me want to read another. This book made me immediately buy another Molly Harper.
Amanda Ronconi does a wonderful job with the narration.
I listen to audio books a lot while I am working. This is another book with humor and a touch of growing up.
Amanda Ronconi is such a good narrator. She has read all of Molly Harper's Nice Girls books and I love the inflection in her voice and her spin on the charachters. I have listened to ALL of these books and am starting to go bck and see what I have missed from this author and narrator.
Yes, when Lacy was finally at Mike's office with the divorce papers and showed how grown up she had become, as well as independent.
Molly Harper White's books bring out the worst and best in us all. We can all understand the hurt and pain her characters go through and they finally become better for their struggles. My prior best author was James Patterson. Now I look for Molly's books first!!
Audiobooks are relaxing and 'food for the soul'.
I would definitely recommend this audiobook. There is refreshing witty humor throughout the entire book. If you want a funny, relaxing book...then this is one for you. It is rare to find humor in what one might call "one of life's most stressful moments".
Of course the newsletter itself; but also the banter betwenn Lacey's brother and his friends.
I have listened to Nice Girls Don't Have Fangs and enjoyed that one just as much as this one. Amanda Ronconi is quickly becoming one of my favorite narrators.
Maya! I would have definitely taken the deal.
I highly recommend this audiobook. It was really great.
