loved everything about this. the tale is epic and exceptional, and the voicework is faultless.
I read this book many years ago and wanted to refresh my memory before I listened to the further books in the series - it did not disappoint and John Lee was a fantastic narrator - I would recommend this to all and sundry a great read as are the rest of the books in this series
It is difficult to find a book that compaes to this.It could be compared to a pseudo history like Tyrant by Manfredi. There is enough history to be interesting but enough fiction to allow characters to be well developed.
Yes, if you want an easy read, so interesting history, but characters lack depth and are not very realistic
Could not say, many started out well, but over time became boring. The female characters were particularly unlikely.
I think book and audio edition equal....why haven't i read/listened to Follett before now!!!!!....Cannot wait to try his other works.
The characters were believable.
Not sure, but I did find John Lee's performance comfortable to listen too, would gladly listen to more of his works.
Just that I thoroughly enjoyed it!!!
Yes, Ken Follett has the gift for writing novels based on history. He does not use foul and obscene language
Positive or Happy characters and stories. Everything was depressing
Too slow. Too boring. Not engaging.
They were all pretty weak.
Stop putting negative twists on everything. Let the 'hero' occasionally have a win and positive experiences and friendships
It's up there. Ken Follet is my new favourite author, next to Bryce Courtenay.
It's one of those books where you get the full story. From the start of the characters' lives to the end.
John Lee is an excellent narrator. Can't fault him in any books I've listened to so far.
Jack, Aliena, Phillip, Tom, many memorable characters.
It put my life on hold.
