Easily, among the top 3.
There are so many to recall. Probably the final chapters where Matt Long describes his experience running the NY Marathon.
Being a new runner, this book transformed my outlook toward running. Here I was with my niggling injuries and doubts, and then you had Matt Long, going through what he did, and not just recovering from his accident, but pushing through all obstacles and actually completing the NY marathon and the Ironman. Pure grit !!
I spend 90+ minutes a day in my car, Audible makes it enjoyable regardless of what's happening in traffic. My taste varies from endurance fitness to economics and from to combat stories and romance novels.
Tough call, in some cases yes, but there are other ways in which Long's bitterness bleeds through his story in so many places that it infects the entire book. While he's done miraculous things to recover physically from devastating injuries and his will to persevere is amazing, throughout the book it's clear that his emotional healing and moving past/through the anger, resentments and bitterness continues to this day.
I hope that Matthew continues his path of healing and if he writes another book to talk about his psycho-spiritual healing, I'd buy it. At this point it seems like he still has some healing to do.
Yep, he needs to focus as much on his psycho-spiritual healing as he has on his physical healing. I'd really hope that Matthew finds a way to get out of his body and into his soul.
Inspiring, shows if you have a dream, desire then nothing can stop you achieving it
Captured you and just drew you in
THE FAMILY SUPPORTED EACH OTHER.
I CRIED WITH SADNESS AND JOY, DURING THE ENTIRE STORY.
IT COULD BE WORSE
ANYONE WITH ANY PROBLEM, SHOULD READ THIS BOOK
AND REEVALUATE THEIR LIFE !
I thought Matthew Del Negro was an excellent narrator. In fact, I'd say he was absolutely perfect to read this story, accent and all. This was one of the times, listening was more powerful than reading.
Matt Long...my new hero.
Next to Scott Brick, Del Negro is my favorite narrator. His voice is very natural. You never felt he was reading, but telling the story.
This book made me laugh and cry. Moments of great sadness, and moments of overwhelming joy.
Everybody who thinks they can't, they're too old, too overweight, too injured, to sick...etc. to push yourself and get healthy needs this book. They NEED this book.
It is an inspirational story and nothing like I thought it would be. I thought it would be more exercise and diet based but I was pleasantly surprised with this vivid description of how will power is more important than 100 doctor estimations of recovery.
The narrarator was AWESOME! I have listened to many audiobooks and some were ruined not by the content but by the annoying narration.
some parts made me laugh and some made me cry so is the rollercoaster tale of recovery after such tragedy. I think the parts where he recalls 9/11 were the most difficult
The Long Run is an amazing story about Matt Long's life -- his athleticism, his values, his courage, and his dogged determination to choose the life he wants to live. It is amazing what the human body and human spirit can overcome when one gives persistent effort and surrenders to the support of loved ones and a team of amazing therapists/coaches.
Matty Long - He is amazing and full of inspiration.
Stop complaining & get moving!
Don't read this if you want to stay a couch potato. This motivated me to sign up for a marathon, so look out if you listen to it. The possibilities are endless.
Yes it is about real people and real life. Motivativating, inspiring, and attention gabbing.
Has to be Matty Long and his fortitude and never say never mentality....even in the face of outstanding odds. The man had a 5% chance of living let alone what he has accomplished.
Again Matty Long
The tough love his mother and father showed when Matt needed it the most, and then Matt telling his mother it was for her!
If you run or thinking of running a must read .... Motivation for me as a new runner at the right time. I relate to real people and real events and that is this book!
Courage. Endurance. Encouragement.
Wow. I don't think anything else comes close.
His transparency. His honesty.
I laughed. I cried. I cringed. I sat silent, at times.
I tackled some tough stuff in my life after listening to this book.I love Matt's motto. . .No longer will I wish. . .No longer will I want. . .from now on. . .I will.
