This might have been a bit more tolerable if I was doing on paper. I am happy to say I am writing this a few weeks after finishing this and can't remember specifics about why the narrator was so annoying but he was. The book itself reminded me of a stock-character-laden bad TV show...which I think this was based on. Not horrible but if you have time you should find the other 467 audio books I have bought. This might just barely make my Top 450. I have only rated 5 or 6 with one star and maybe 10 with 2. Kinda' like Wanbaugh without the humor.
I love all genres of books. However, when I listen to audio books as I clean, garden, drive they are better with a lot of heat!
This might have been a bit more tolerable if narrator was better. I am happy to say that I did finish the book but it just seemed to go and on. Like other listeners the book itself reminded me of a bad TV show. Not horrible but of all the books I have listened to this is just bearly average.
If you watch the show or not, this is a great series. I would highly recommend this series either way. I started watching the show and that led me to the books.
And Buffalo George
Enjoyable light read. A novel version of the show "Castle." Lots of possible suspects and motives so not an easy mystery. Expert knowledge of Manhattan evident in exciting motorcycle chase. Maybe, I'll read another?
Wouldn't know, didn't read it, only listened.
Not on the edge, but intrigued none-the-less.
He was good. Got the inflections and pauses down and has a nice speaking voice.
Couldn't, but I listened as often as I could until it was finished - about 3 days.
I like the series. I'll be buying more. They are perfect for my workout listens.
This book, specifically the way the characters are drawn, could only possibly be enjoyed by people who DON'T watch the TV show Castle. I felt sorry for the narrator. The text was so insipid and two-dimensional it made it impossible to finish. The Nikki Heat character is ridiculously marginalized at every turn to the point where I was rooting for her to arrest Jameson Rook for his unconscionable and illegal behavior.
I have learned my lesson about second hand fiction and will not go down this path again. I love crime novels, but will stick to higher quality writers and characters who are built from the page up.
Don't waste the credit.
The only strong points in this book are the main characters and their interplay, Nikki Heat and Jameson Rook. They are fundamentally strong voices for any book. The story itself turns too many times and the other characters are too much of a formula. The book seems to drag with far too long, descriptive passages. I found myself pausing far too often so I could recall where I was in the story and the significance of a character or passage. It struck me that the writer was trying to hard to hide the motives of the killer(s) to create suspense or a surprise ending. It served only to make the story drag. The narration was pretty slow through most of the book but at "normal" speed in some parts. I suspect it is a problem with the recording as opposed to the narrator who's voice seemed to fit the book well. This is my third Richard Castle book. If it were my first, I would never have discovered the two much better ones.
Look upward and see the wonders I've seen
I didn't read the print version so I really can't say. I enjoyed the audio version.
Seeing how the characters from Castle become the characters in the Nikki Heat world.
Sure. He did a good job.
No, but it did make my commute more enjoyable for a week. Listening to audiobooks while I commute back and forth to work keeps my stress level down.
If your a Fan of the Hit Show Castle this is a fun book to read
Its like taken several shows and making into a book very clever and enjoyable to listen too.
