What I loved more about this story was that it was different than your normal bad guy good guy books.
If you are looking for an action thriller, this is the book. I look forward to reading the entire series.
I like the character development and I like the storyline.
I like all the characters, but Guidall's voice works very well with Stan Hurley
This is a very compelling book. I didn't want to stop listening.
If your a Mitch Rapp fan, there is nothing new revealed here. If this is your first read of the series, try another book before judging. If you don't have another book to read in the queue, it's OK
George Guidall reads everything well
This is one of my first fiction audio books, and I picked a winner. I cannot wait to get the first book in the series. I picked American Assassin because it "prequel" like, went back to the beginning of Rapp's career and told it as it all began.
The plot was good enough. Not quite to the edge of my seat, but really kept me wanting to listen at every opportunity I could get. After reading countless Clancy, Flemming, spy, black ops, non-fiction special ops accounts, Bourne, nothing surprises me much, but there was something very unique and original about this one. It was not generic at all.
Bravo!!! I could not have imagined a better narrator for this book. Mr. Guidall, if you read this, I was thoroughly impressed with your work. You had ALL of the voices down, especially Hurley. To the listeners: he really nails it. He's thoroughly convincing, a terrific speaker and a bit of an actor. Got me picturing what he actually looks like more than the characters.
Nope, just looking forward to more.
Great book, couldn't stop listening! The narrator was fantastic.
Great with voice changes felt like I was watching a movie!
If you want to get into the Mitch Rapp series, start here. This is a great book. If you listen to it you will find the underworld of espionage and what it takes to fight the war on terror. Mitch Rapp is my favorite character in any novel. He is this generations Jack Ryan. Flynn did a wonderful job of story telling and character development. He goes into detail where many other authors would just glance over. Although he doesn't go into extreme depth like Clancy often does. His style is wonderful. I would highly recommend this to anyone that is looking for a heart pounding thriller that has many books in the series for you to enjoy. I envy you if you have not listened to any of Flynn's novels yet. You have hours and hours of great listening ahead of you!!!!
Rapp going one on one with Stan Hurley.
Stan Hurley, just a crotchety old vet that really helps to kick off this series, as he trains a young Mitch Rapp become a methodical if at times, lose cannon, terrorist killing machine.
Being American Assassin is a prequel to an already established series it is hard to compare this to another series without comparing it to the series itself. Mitch Rapp is a man among men who has a no-nonsense look at life especially with the burning desire for retribution for his girlfriend's and many other's deaths during a terrorist attack. This book starts out as Rapp is recruited and trained for the future career as an off the books CIA wet man. He has to prove himself not only to instructors but in several incidents to himself that he can do this work and live through it.
At the beginning of Rapp's training he tells Hurley "Let's get this over with." and in the next few paragraphs Hurley and Rapp beat each other bloody. Because according to Hurley this recruit without military training at worth his time, but in fact Hurley has to break his own rules and grab Rapp by the gonads to not lose the fight.
I have enjoyed listening to all of the Mitch Rapp series via Audible and Audible’s mobile App. I feel the narrator does a great job making each character different and discernible when listening for a long period of time and when your mind might wander briefly it is easy to catch back up. The material (plot) is relevant to now and really not something so unbelievable it's hard to follow. So if you enjoy military thrillers check out the Mitch Rapp series of books by Vince Flynn.
So very much like Brad Thor and Clancy but with some funny characters that just drip with the GI smart@$$ness I use to deal with in the Army. I cracked up so many times it made my side hurt.
Even though he is an older narrator. He really does help to make the characters come alive. I like his animated way of reading.
YES... YES.... YES... If I did not have to work to pay for these audiobooks I would have finished it in one day.
I will be getting the rest of these, either in book or audiobook. Fantastic writing and I am excited to read the rest of the series.
The story is good enough for me to check out the next book in the series.
It really took awhile to get use to this narrator. It was not the manly voice I was thinking for for this kind of spy novel.
Yes, because if that person liked thrillers yes!
The twists and turns!
He brought great narrtortion to the book, it starts off slow but picks up!
