The glorious voice carries us along, the self-deprecating humour is delicious, and the story is always interesting. I feel we might have got a little further??? Not a great deal actually gets covered. However, what is here, is well worth swallowing with pleasure.
When he describes what Cocteau and him may do to entertain their guests. however, what Steven may do is going to be a lot less amusing!
The power of self-irony
monotone monologue failed to bring the expected life to Stephen's life story. Not recommended for listening to while driving!
Yes, because the narration is so great. I always like it when the author of a autobiobraphy reads his own book, and Stephen Fry is my favorit narrator, so this was perfect in that sense.
I have listened to his reading of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. This was just as good as that one.
No, but that is not necessary. You can take it in bits.
I enjoyed this audiobook and I love Stephen Fry's voice and his narration skills. I found the content interesting, but I found myself being distracted by the use of, usually three but sometimes four and a couple of times even five adjectives to describe anything, to the point where I found myself counting them. I suppose they were necessary but in the end it annoyed me and I probably won't buy the next book. Anyone wanting to hear Stephen Fry at his best - get the Harry Potter books.
I'm a big fan of Stephen Fry and this book was a really interesting read. I love biographies and he did a great job giving us all the nitty gritty without it being too in depth and gooey.
Very well read by the man himself. As to the story I dont think it is a full account with warts and all - but certianly a lot of frank talk of what has made him who he is today.
Stephen Fry chronicles his life in an A to Z list, talking about his rise to fame, time at university and any other topic you can name. Sometimes he can get a little "name droppy" but that's his life! A good, fun listen!
To this point, this is the best audio book I have bought.
Just the way Stephen uses the English language.
His wit, his extradinary use of the english language is delicious, and he paints a picture that is wonderful. Particularly so if you are familiar with time, location and people
Stephen is so wonderfully candid about all his insecurities and self doubts- he had me laughing at myself for illustrating my similar thoughts
not yet, but very much intend to!
When he was recounting his time as school teacher who had threatened punishment to a student, and when push came to shove- he had to show he had the beans.
Very entertaining and honest- I cant wait for him to continue with the next chronicle!
