I have read 2 of Jennifer Crusie's books and found them to be enjoyable. I bought this one on sale after seeing that Angela Dawe was the narrator. Dawe did a nice job. The story itself was entertaining and I found myself doing extra housework and spending a little more time on the treadmill so I could listen a little longer. The story is a great mix of the absurd and believable. A very nice surprise.
I actually bought this book by accident, but I liked the author already and thought why not.
I had expected more of the same from her... Guy and girl meet, hate each other, have sex, and get engaged within a month of meeting. That seems to be how all the others go. They aren't particularly clever in story line, but entertaining in writing style and kind of funny, so I read them.
This one had more. There was a plausible ghost story/ possible psycotic episode mixed into the inevitable month long love story based on good sex. There were even a couple of plot twists I didn't see coming from several chapters back (again, the love story was not one of those). The writing was good and the characters were funny. They were a lot like many of her other characters though- she, a somewhat loose cannon of a woman, he an uptight yuppie controlled by his Mommy Dearest mother, still fun enough for what they are.
The narration was adequate, but nothing more.
It's not Crusie's best, but definitely not her worst either. She's at her best when she focuses on the relationships between the characters, which she kind of does here but the plot was a little too thin.
I didn't find this book so "great, funny and interesting" as it was described in so many reviews. For me this book has rather silly and vacuous plot, but was written with humour and good language. While reading it I was remembering film "Ghostbusters". So I can recommend this book to everybody who like this film.
love love love it was another great listen. was good right up to the very last word. has a few twist in there. good charactors funny twist and turns. several times i refused to get out of truck till parts where over. easy fast listens. if it was the book you couldn't stop turning the pages.
I have been an avid reader of Jennifer Crusie for a while now. So I was excited to see that she had a new audo book out & I have to tell you this book is great!!! Her caracters are spot on and the plot did keep me going (though I did miss her usual dog character in this one) The reader did a good job of all the characters & I would listen to her again. If you like Jennifer Crusie's Books than this one is a must! Happy Listening!!!
Listen on people!
Jennifer Crusie cracks me up. I love her sense of humor she puts into her books. From beginning to end, it was a pure fun & pleasure.
Loved it. I didn't want it to be over when I finished it. I enjoyed the sense of humor...the mystery...the bit of romance. It held my attention clear to the end..
Lover of ideas who feels no guilt at all about her pleasures.
Really enjoyed Crusie's early stuff. Her books are largely what got me started reading romance to begin with. Lately, I find she forgets to put the romance in her romances. The same sparkling dialogue and quirky characters are there, but no sexual sizzle. This one, with it's emphasis on children, felt particularly like a young adult novel to me. I definitely prefer a naughtier read, but if your sensibility is geared more to G-ratings, you might like this book a lot - it has a retro - 60's Disney feel. If you're looking for emotion and heat, however, I'd keep browsing.
Fun story with good characters. Kept me interested and engaged the entire time. Great, easy listen when you are in the mood for a happy ending.
