This book is amazing! Sanderson is a genius and has a masterful way of guiding your imagination. He builds the characters perfectly and a little twist here, another one there and then boom! Sixth time through and I love it.
Besides being written by one of the best fantasy authors around it is 45 hours of story for a single credit. You can't go wrong unless you don't like fantasy or you don't like Brandon Sanderson. Personally I enjoy Brandon's creativity when it comes to building new worlds and the magic and creatures that inhabit them. Once again I'm not disappointed.
I really did enjoyed "the Wheel of Time", where I first heard Kate Reading and Michael Kramer (first audio book I listened too). The way of Kings was performed very well but the story itself dragged and listening to Kaladin whine for (seemed like) hours almost made me stop listening multiple times.
I liked the world and the way the world was presented. Least interesting was very 'hero' of the books are broken and seem un-redeemable even in the end. They only do the 'right' thing because they have too or get caught.
The scenes dealing with the world itself, High Storms and how people 'fear' and build there life around them. How the natural world evolved to protect from the high storms, etc.
If the books are as long and drawn out without reason, no. If the story can progress without the 'self intersection' that never seems to teach the 'heroes' then it has potental.
I am harsh on the story, mostly because the book was soooo long and aspects of the story that would allow the heroes to 'learn' or evolve just seem to keep reinforcing the mentality so there are several scenes that became un-needed as it did not show anything but the antagonist being bull headed.
My name is not Steve, I work at site. I am a water and wastewater treatment operator from the great white north.
I was recommended to read this from a friend, he warned me that this is a large book so don't be discouraged if it feels like there is multiple stories to keep track of and you won't be sure of how they all tie together at first. A well-balanced mix of high context and low context storytelling. Great replay value.
Brandon Sanderson has written an epic. This is great to listen for many reasons with my personal favorite being the inner experience and growth of the characters. The Way of Kings is a multi-layered exciting adventure with many original concepts and fantastical characteristics.
I have enjoyed the Kate Reading and Michael Kramer duo before. They do a great job bringing the story to life. This is long but worthwhile.
it is sooo loooong! it's good, but they could have seriously cut 15 hours out of this book and not lost anything.
there are characters and plots he spends hours developing, and in the end they aren't even important to the story.
Well maybe they will become important in later books, who knows......
a boy from norway 23 years old. listen to audiobooks beacause i i hate reading, but i love the storys that are written down.
slow start. confusing at first. but 10 hours in the book my intress started up. the rest of the book was well worth the wait. awsome story. i dont regret pushing trough the 10 first hour. (maybe my situation and mind was ready at first)
