I am a wheel of time fan. When Brandon took over to finish the series, I was a bit nervous about a possible style change. I had nothing to worry about.. I started in Brandon ' s own work to find out if he had the same magic with his characters. although the time jumps in the book took me for a loop, after getting them figured out, it gave a depth to the main character seldom seen in modern writings.. great stuff.. I am looking forward to the rest of the series
I really like that there are two people reading the book to show the guys view and the girls views.
Very similar world building and attention to detail as his other books like mistborn or the Wheel of Time Series
Bridge 4 sticking together
everything is not as it seems
I got halfway through and just couldnt sit through it anymore. The author spends so much time trying to world build but the world he is building is not inspiring or intriguing, the characters are lacking depth or complexity and ultimately the entire story 22 hours in was a series of contrivances and cliches. From the cockney accented blue collar peasants to the totally bland fallen hero plot thread its just bad. The wheel of time series that the author attempts to emulate was engrossing and full of depth and vibrance from the first page, just because a story is long doesnt make it grand or epic, you cant simply build a tower of words and expect it to be engaging simply because it is so long winded. I really wanted to like this but Im simply disgusted with everything about it, just yuck.
The pace, the feel, the characters and the challenge of being something more make this book one of my favorites. The second book is even better.
