I have read to every one of terry brooks books, they are all good, however typically follow the same formula.
This book was a wonderful book and changed Terry's standard formula, it adds depth and will reignite your love of Shannara!
Just your everyday nerd cowboy. I like listening while riding pens and checking pastures.
The narrator did a great job keeping the book interesting. I think the story was written for a younger reader. With that being said I am still going to purchase the next book because I want to see what happens next to the characters.
But the book and enjoy a uncomplicated story that is very enjoyable .
I love the whole story line by Terry Brooks. I prefer listening to book because I drive a lot and it helps passing the time.
The story lines in it are intricate and exciting, full of wonder and imagination. The way Terry describes things, makes me visualize it as if it were a movie playing in my head. It's Terry's descriptive and imaginative writing that I love, and his characters.
I don't want to spoil the story....
I almost did. I think it was done in 2 or 3 sittings.
I listened to it while driving up the east coast, and the book ended and hour before I got to my destination, and I didn't have the next book loaded. I roared in the car because it's a cliff hanger, and I have to know what happened next!!!I'm getting the next book ready for my return trip, and I can't wait to get to it.
Terry Brooks is pretty formulaic. There's always the helpful elite stranger who helps the lost and helpless main character. There's always dithering and frustration over what needs to be done and how its going to happen. Most characters are willing to do whatever must be done, except the main character, who is always self doubting and under skilled and conflicted.
That said, this book is still interesting and keeps you going. I haven't read or listened to all of his books but this is the first so far that has a cast that is actually kinda capable and less whiney. It's good!
Enough detail and description that you start to understand the characters.
Book starts to describe the races of the four lands and how they interact.
Didn't end up finishing this one, so it may get better further in, but what I did listen to I found frustrating. I have loved many Terry Brooks novels in the past, so I was a kind of disappointed. Yes, they can be formulaic, but it's a formula I like and usually I enjoy them a lot. The main character in this one I found annoying and hard to buy into as a hero. He seems to spend most of his time suffering from contrived moral dilemmas without actually doing anything to get himself out of them or using his brain at all, ever. There's nothing wrong with the narration, and I wouldn't hesitate to listen to a different book with the same narrator, but it wasn't overwhelming either.
Say something about yourself!
Yes I would recommend this story to a friend, it was an awesome story.
I liked the story line and the details.
The most memorable character in the story for me is Cyder Raymond, known as the gray man.
The story is a little rough at the beginning but has a great, great ending few chapters. I really liked how the story pulled together to show how all of the characters in the story are effected and how their lives are drastically changed by the occurrences that are happening around them.
As a professional crochet and knitwear designer I have a lot of time to sit and listen to books. Makes the work day better!
I listen to a LOT of audiobooks. My profession allows for me to work and listen to audiobooks at the same time. I need a book that is going to keep my attention and entertain me. Usually, I finish a 13 hour book in a day and a half...this one is only 13.5 hours and I am on my fifth day listening to it and I am only 1/2 of the way through. It is so terribly boring!
As for the narration, I actually really enjoy the way Phil Gigante narrates so that was the best part for me.
IMHO:Save your credits and borrow this book from the library.
I havent read the book, i work quite a bit so i like audiobooks to help past the time.
i loved it when they went to the elven city they gave great detail about the plants , flowers you can see them in your mind i just love the details of the story.
I love phil voice i hope any other terry brooks books come out for audio that phil does the characters.
