Great story, well narrated, although accents and voice modulation mixed for some characters.
Disappointed with the end. It was so abrupt that I went looking for an extra download, thinking I'd missed one of the download files. I would still recommend this book though.
love sci fi when doing my cardio and was looking forward to an endless scifi saga, something that hooks you when you do sport. but this narrator does just the opposite. he just could not manage to grab my attention, i really tried hard. his voice is ok, but the tempo is awkward to say the least, his voice flattens at the end of each sentence. terrible. spoiled the content for me. zero stars.
Peter F. Hamilton invents a really interesting Universe, one that is engaging and full of interesting stuff. But I feel that the book could have been soo much better by cutting it down to maybe 1/3 of its length. The writing spreads the interesting content over way too many pages. You have to work through hours of cheep TV-style soap about rather predictable characters before you are rewarded with another interesting snipped that drives the story along. While I in the end enjoyed diving into this Universe, I am not going to invest the same amount of time to read through the sequel.
I think I need to check out if there is a short story collection by this author....
This being the first book by Hamilton that I've come across, I'm thoroughly pleased at having found a new favorite author.
The characters, and they're plenty, are well developed and feel realistic.
This got it all: action, sex, politics, discovery... Science fiction at its best.
The story is engaging. It would have been much more so if it flowed. There is so much padding that it is easy to lose interest and skip sections. I used much will power not to skip. Mr Hamilton has exquisite imagination. What could have been literature of the first order becomes soap opera. A shame.
Quite a confusing book. Nice stories but it reminds me a lot about the old movie "short cuts", if you like that and Sci-fi you will likely like this. I just like Sci-fi so I'm not in the target listening group I suppose.
Regret pre-puchasing the next book in the series. Won't listen to it..
I'm a reader of anything interesting and/or entertaining, be it fiction or non-fiction. If it exercises the gray matter at the same time, all the better!
A well read and well written. I love detail, and this series doesn't skimp on details.
Revelation space series. More in terms of size and scale, rather than setting and story.
Have listened to many and this is as good or better than others.
To bring the commonwealth saga and the void saga (which continues on 1500 years in the future) to the big screen is would take many movies, so this one would be........Welcome to the Commonwealth: episode one of ten!
Start here and don't stop until you finish The Temporal Void.
I'm an astronomer. Scifi is all I ever read/watch/listen to. (with the occasional epic fantasy here and there, for diversity :)
I don't understand why this book had to be that long. If you read the brief book description by audible then you know essentially *all* highlights and the rest of the book just turns out to be bland and boring with endless descriptions and numerous new characters introduced every 2-3 hours. It gets more interesting around hour 30 but you'd have to be very determined to get there. I won't be buying the sequel, I can't take another 40 hours of this.
