Something about yourself.
I adored this story. It was very craftily written and loved how the cinderella theme was an outline for certain events in the book. The narrator was excellent and I will definitely buy more from Eloisa James. Well worth the time and money for an esape.
HOPEFUL ROMANTIC. I Enjoy Historical & Inspirational Romances With Great Narration. Oh, And I give Honest Reviews with No Spoilers. ;-)
I love Cinderella stories and this one was sweet, romantic, and definitely for adults. The sexual tension between Kate and Gabriel builds beautifully in this story and it kept my attention throughout. It isn't so much a historical romance but for those of you who also love the story of Cinderella you will love this! I thought the narration was good. Each character had its own unique voice which I liked. Well done!
Skeptical of yet another Cinderella story, I decided to purchase this book. I am pleased to say that I enjoyed every minute of listening to it. I'll have to admit this is one of E James's better books I have read recently. Contrary to my expectations, I feel she did an amazing job of building charecters and story telling with a twist of humor. Great job and unexpected!!!!
I spin my own wool and knit. Listening to audiobooks while I craft is one of my favorite things. I'm hooked.
This was indeed a charming love story. It's an adult take on the Cinderella story, and a nice one. There is some explicit sexual descriptions, but otherwise the story is, well, sweet and emotional. I particularly liked the heroine, who was a no nonsense sort of girl.
There were only a couple of things that took a star off this book for me. First (and this could just be me, I've been reading alot of paranormal and fantasy lately), there seemed to be remarkably little action. The book was focused on the love story to pretty much the exclusion of all else. I suppose I just really like the dynamic of the villein and the villein in this story (the wicked stepmother, of course) disappears into the insignificant background shortly after the book begins. That sort of left a vital antagonist from the original Cinderella story on the sidelines, and that didn't work so well for me.
The narrator did a good job on everything but the male character voices. Never mind the accent (which I agree is missing something), but Gabriel's gruff sexy voice sounded more like a croaky whisper. This by no means makes her performance a failure, but it's a small irritation that comes up every so often and makes me want to grind my teeth every time.
Overall, I'm happy I got the book, and listening to it was worth my time. It's a feel good happily ever after romance, and if that's what you're looking for, you've found it right here.
The word to best describe this audiobook is charming. It is not a deep story of historic romance, but it is not a shallow retelling of fairtytale. It is a really entertaining story that has to be treated like a fairytale. The romance is extremely descriptive and captivating. If not taken too seriously, this story is an absolute delight and the voice work is superb, though Gabriel does always sound like he was about to die of throat cancer at any moment. I would recommend this book to anyone who needed a nice cheerful light novel.
Audio-fiction ADDICT !
I enjoyed this book alot. Eloisa is such a good hstoric author. The narrator was ok. But I am a big fan of Rosalyn Landor. I believe the book would have been ever a better listen with her voice
I was almost instantly drawn into the story because the delious narration moved me and the characters were such believable people. You believe that hat Kate and the Prince Gabriel are welcomed love story which made me teary, but in the end they do get to live happily ever after.
