I loved all the books of the Wallflower serie, but for me this one is the greatest. Strong characters, sweet and passionate story. Lisa Kleypas and Rosalyn Landor at their best!
I loved this book, I really liked the first three novels in the series and this one in particular is just so . . . sweet. If you are familiar with the series you are already familiar with our heroine Lillian Bowman, a spirited and tempestuous American that is out of place in the English countryside. Westcliff is a staid and bit stodgy lord that doesn't stand a chance against her. You probably already have a really good idea about how the story progresses but Kleypas's storytelling is so engaging that I found every minute of the mildly predictable plot enjoyable. I really enjoyed the relationship between the four women, especially between the two sisters. There is one scene in particular that made me giggle out loud. I really recommend this series and I especially encourage people to listen in order.
Yes, it was a good story, kept me entertained. The fact the characters are from different ends of society and their personalities clash so much makes it more an enjoyable story.
Any book where 2 people from different classes are attracted to each other. No one expects them to be together based on status but in the end they overcome the odds.
Love her performance. I don't the story would be as entertaining if it was read on its own. Her voices really bring the emotions of the books. She is the best narrator I have listened to.
The Brits can't get enough of the Americans
The first 2 books of this series has been pleasant and enjoyable to read. Can't wait to listen to the rest and I hope they keep me just as interested
I've read many Lisa Kleypas novels and really enjoy her characters. Smart, sexy & fun
The wit and conversations between Marcus & Lillian keeps you listening.
Umm..should I confess that she writes the romance well? All those scenes could be favorites. :0
I very nearly did listen in one sitting and I'm listening to it again today.
It's worth the time. I wish Audible would get the Unabridged version of Mine Till Midnight by Ms Kleypas.
I have throughly enjoyed the complete Wallflower series. However, I must admit that this was my least favorite of the books. The character of Lillian I found to be slightly obnoxious, thought the story was well wrote and very well preformed.
I would recommend this book becuase I did enjoy the story, however I would recommend any of the other 3 over this one.
Finally finding time to enjoy my first love... "reading" ... in a whole new way that fits into my busy schedule.
When I was in my late teens and early twenties I feasted on Harlequin Romance Novels ... I bought this book because the story sounded interesting and I was a bit nostalgic for the romance novels of my youth. This book did not live up to my expectations at all...I was disappointed in the main character's behavior. I suppose Lillian Bowman was intended to be "strong willed" but for me she came off as rude and irrational at times. Perhaps its just that now I am 40 instead of 20 so these type novels don't work for me anymore...but it may have just been this novel...I don't know. This is the first of Lisa Kleypas that I have read.
Regarding the narrator...the female characters who were British were done well.... However...the American female accents were just plain whiny, annoying and shrill at times...which was unfortunate because they were the main characters in Book #2. This may have actually played into my ability to enjoy the Audible book.
I must admit, I have not read the first Wallflower installment in this series...having bought this Book #2 "on sale" a couple weeks ago. Perhaps it would have helped if I had formed some attachment to this book's main characters prior to hearing this novel. I have to say, I am tempted to get at least the third in this series because the set up at the end of Book #2 for the next in the series has piqued my curiosity but I am yet still undecided. I'll have to read more reviews.
This is a nice series to read when you just want to relax with an entertaining book.
It's a delightful romance between an out spoken American lady, in search for a husband. She catches the eye of the stuffy Lord Westcliff. She's the second of the group of 4 wallflowers, finding her happily everafter.
The stories are separate, but do connect to the previous, so reading in order is suggested.
I have been trying to find a man who could possibly have as romantic and sexy voice as you Rosalyn Landor. As impossible it would be to read this book it is a real pleasure to listen to you read it. Thank you.
The narrator captures the flavor of the story and the timeframe.
Never disappointed with this author.
I know that not everyone was able to muster up a lot of sympathey for Lilian, but I really enjoyed this character. Underneath all her prickles are a very large heart and a sense of vulnerability which endeared her to me. She's bright and mischievous, and her personality really drives the story. Marcus, on the other hand, has earned himself a place in my "Heroes I'd like to whack with a rolling-pin" book. But Kleypas does an excellent job of keeping his character just this side of insufferable. I really hate male protagonists who run roughshod over their love interests, and while Marcus is stubborn and somewhat self-deluded he's not such a domineering autocrat that it made me wonder why Lilian fell in love in the first place.
The countess was finally vanquished! I've been waiting for them to get rid of her since "Again The Magic".
The scene at the beginning with the sisters playing rounders with the grooms. Too funny! And the scene with the calf's head made me laugh out loud.
