A SAHM who loves books
The book had some good moments. Sadly it just went on too long. Lillian started off being a strong character, but I feel she just fell to pieces as the story continued.
The Wallflowers where the best part of the story. Wish she had dealt with them more fully.
The narrator just ruined the book for me. She just couldn't get the character voices right, she was very grating. Made Lord Marcus sound attrocious. In fact her male voices were all terrible.
She pretty much described there love making the same each time and I really didn't like her ufinisims for there bodily parts.
I will not buy another book with this narrator
I love Marcus Westcliff's love to Lillian. He knows what he wants to get it.
I had a heard time hearing her in the beginning. I think it's the quality of the audio. She was great in another book, Devil in Winter, in this series.
I only listened book 2 & book 3 of this series and love them. The stories were well written.
Usually, I am a bit disappointed with 2nd books in a series, but this one stands out as a triumph!
The story follows the 2nd eldest "wallflower" in their bid to become a wife to a titled Englishman. Our American born and highly independent heroine is so colorful that it makes me laugh out loud at her antics in stodgy Victorian England. I could identify with her so well!
Again, the narrator is outstanding! Keeping the voices from the first book, you never have to wonder who is speaking!
Again, I'd highly recommend this book.. and look forward to the next installment. This author had won me back over to this genre!
I owned this book in hardcopy, bought it a few months ago in e-book and now I have it on audio. I love the story and characters and Rosalyn Landor made it come alive. One of the best audio books ever.
When Lillian gets drunk - too funny and then too hot!
Rosalyn Landor is an excellent narrator and always makes the book come alive.
When Lillian's mother is describing her marriage to Lillian's father and for the first time Lillian realizes how unhappy her mother is in her marriage and why. It gives Lillian insight to why her mother acts the way she does.
Totally addicted to Audible.
This story was just a little too much like the first one to suit me but it was entertaining and I don't regret getting it. Much better than so many others.
Stayed up until the battery on the MP3 player died. Reminds me of the trials of my early relationship with my husband. Almost hating to love each other so much!
I have enjoyed many of Lisa Kleypas's books. I was very exciteed to see the Wallflower series finally on audible.com. I enjoyed Rosalyn Landor's interpretation of the the characters. Sometimes her men seem to run together, but that can be said of very many performers doing the opposite sex. I highly recommend this series to lovers of historical romance.
Lillian and Marus who would've thought. Another good story and loved that Simon, Annabel, Evie and St. Vincent were also a part of this. Gotta love the Wallflowers. Rosalyn Landor does the story proud.
A simple and sweet romance for those who enjoy the Mills & Boon type of books. Its a bit like a simplified version of Shakespeare's "Taming of the Shrew". Personally though, i dont go for this genre, and bought it because of good reviews and a pleasant sounding sample. Not the right book for me, but I'm sure many others would enjoy it. Good narration.
Storyline was well written, but what I found even more enjoyable was the narrator/storyteller. I have been legally blind since 2003 and have had to give up just about all of my reading. Being a book a day reader this was devastating to say the least! Since then I have been blessed with audiobooks. The first audiobooks I received (from bookstores, friends, and library) were awful. Either monotone or tried too hard using accents and/or voice inflections that were over the top horrible.
I would definitely recommend the entire series. Although the plots are quite similar, stories are well written and well read.
My only problem with Lisa Kleypas books is I have read/listened to them all. This series I have gone through twice. These are some of my "go to" books. Whenever I need to relax my eyes and mind.
