Very unexpected... I really enjoyed it, mostly because of the interesting characters. we got to know them in depth and and to love them (or hate them). The story line kept me interested, and although predictable at times I didn’t mind it because the dialogs were enjoyable. The narration was nice, although a bit too fast to my liking at first, but later i got used to it.
This had to be a literary challenge to write and I was Impressed. Spent a little time Confused at first until I got the hang of the "characters". Blending present vs. past, natural vs supernatural, sane vs insane, love vs. lust...wheew you got to have skills but she pulled it off.
My first Suzanne Brockmann novel, but I'll certainly read more! This was a fun, exciting romance with good depth in the characters, a historical mystery and a funny but determined ghost! The duel narrators was a little annoying, but do-able.
Awesome! I had so much fun "reading" this one...I could not put it down. In fact I listened to it twice in 3 days, and I am not an avid reader! Suz writes in such a vivid way that I thought I was in the plot most of the time. Many of the situations were just hilarious.
I got to say, when I first started listening to Patrick Lowler (who makes Suz's books just GREAT to listen to), I kept seeing Decker and Dave (from the Troubleshooter series) in my mind because he used the same voices. It was kind of funny, but it dissapeared within 1 or 2 chapters!
If you have never read Suz's books, be aware of explicit passages.
This was such a great story. I enjoyed it all the way through and didnt want to put it down. It is a great comedy romance book. I caught myself laughing out loud then rewinding it and listening to it again to laugh again. I like how the story is told from the view of each character and the fact that it has a male and female narrator made it more fun. This is a chick lit but a fun laugh out loud romance. Worth the credit and I will be telling my book buddies about it.
I'm sorry. Those super steamy hearts-beating-as-one endlessly long chapters with the requisite earth-moving simultaneous orgasms are soooo over the top. The plot's really not bad, although stretched way beyond what it needs to be. Regardless of any review to the contrary, this is a romance novel, not a mystery or adventure story. If you are into this kind of thing, well, you'll probably love it. I really hated it, flipped through the last bunch of chapters just to see if it would end the way I thought it would (yes, it did). For the genre, it's well written and maybe even innovative, but I hated it. I reached the point of near nausea toward the end of the last half, as if I'd eaten way too much very sweet dessert. Maybe it's age related, or maybe I just need grittier characters and more complex stories. Whatever. I also found the male narrator's voice very annoying. I've encountered him before and found his voice very annoying then, too. It has a whiny quality that is like chalk on my personal blackboard. Yes, it is subjective and maybe it wouldn't bother you, but it actually began to make my skin crawl. I wanted to enjoy this, really I did. I tried to like it. I stuck with it past the point when I might have otherwise stopped, but ... For the hard core steamy romance enthusiasts only. The rest of you, beware!
I love Suzanne Brockmann.. I thought this was a little different. It was very good, but not great. If your looking for Navy Seals, not the book for you.
I chose this book out of NEED. Books by my favorite authors are just not showing up fast enough to keep me entertained, so while out looking for something, I read reviews by others and took the chance. Am I ever glad I did. Although this book does not have a story that carries from one book to the next, it does contain many stories in one. The story of a young boy who has lost his cornerstone in life, a young man dealing with experiences he had while fighting for our freedom, and the addiction he developed when he came home. It also becomes entertaining because of the love that develops with a historian, that has been hired to help with a historical film. Although there are some "sex" scenes, it isn't porno.
I really enjoyed this book it made me laugh, cry and fear for the characters. The narrators were great creating the atmosphere that was required for each character and circumstance. I highly recommend this book for a great listen.
I love Suzanne Brockmann, I have read all her books and just love them. I thought this one was very different. It was ok but nothing like her navy seals. If that is what you are looking for (a very manly man) than stay away from this book and go with her navy seal books. They are great!
