This book didn't have the normal flare that I'm used to finding in Sandra Brown novels. I don't consider it a waste of a credit, but it seemed to ramble on and on in places without holding my interest. I like the fact that it is a sequel to Smash Cut and we are able to catch up with some of those characters, as well as get to hear Dodge's story, but I just couldn't warm up to the story as a whole.
The narration wasn't great either, which did not help matters.
The story needs to pop! I have listened to many other Sandra Brown books that have been read by Victor Slezak and this one just doesn't get it. The story line is boring and does not captivate me as her others have done.
Since, I didn't finish it, I cannot give a fair opinion.
I love Victor Slezak!! I think it was just the story line that made it such a bummer.
Great suspense with a dash of romance novel. Dodge Henley's true love and the one who got away, Caroline asks for his help after a 30 year absence. Dodge now starts to develop a relationship with the daughter he has not seen since her birth. Throw in a whack job stalker determined to murder Dodge's daughter Berry, and Dodge's vow to protect the love of his life and his daughter makes for quite a thrilling and suspenseful novel.
Born to read
I have had this book for 2 years, and just now decided to listen. -- I read all the reviews and they were not very good.
Now I do not know why, it is a great book -- just like Sandra Brown.
the going back and forth to the past to tell part of the story is a trademark for her. I really liked this book, and wonder why it took me so long ..
on a side note, Envy by Sandra Brown is one of my all time favorites, this is almost as good.
Say something about yourself!
This book is a sort-of sequel to "Envy," in that the main male character appears in the earlier novel as the hero's stalwart sidekick. Since I had pictured him in that book as a grizzled older man, it took some effort on my part to see him as a romantic (non-grizzled) hero in Tough Customer. The female characters never gelled for me; neither did the plot. That said, actor Victor Slezak could narrate your old high school yearbooks and turn them into a sexy and highly listenable evening's entertainment.
In summary, this one's okay for long drives where you want something to keep you from dozing at the wheel. It's not the author's best effort, but Victor Slezak lifts it from uninteresting to merely predictable.
Being a Sandra Brown fan for a few years, I always like to see what new storyline her new books render. I hadn't read (or listened in this case) this book until now and needless to say it isn't one of her best ones. It was entertaining and worth a listen. One of my faves is "Fat Tuesday" as well as "Chill Factor". Those are the classic Brown suspense novels that i personally enjoy!
I liked the book quite a bit. You should read smash cut first. Shares the same characters. It is a romance but the story line is good. starts off slow but picks up to a good story.
Not her best work, but I always read Sandra because I never know when I'll find a FAVORITE!
I'd love to tell Frederick from the (First Review Post) He is right,Sandra usually is Romance, but that he should READ/LISTEN --- Sandra Brown's ENVY! I think even a guy would enjoy that book!
ENVY, is hands down, my favorite book to date... I hate to see someone have a bad read with this one and think that it is all Sandra "is" -- If you are thinking of trying a Sandra Brown novel, go for ENVY, you won't be disappointed.
Avid reader and listener!! Love books! I am usually reading one genre of books and listening to another genre. Best of both!
I have read almost all Sandra Brown's books. While, I don't think this is her best and should be classified more romance, it was a good easy read. This book did not have fast paced suspense, but was good novel.
