I found the humor surprisingly irritating and unfunny considering I have always enjoyed Woody's films. Something did not quite work here. Have not reads it all yet.
Did not sound sufficiently relaxed or confident considering this is Woody's genre.
Woody Allen has a tremendously good voice. Somewhat ponderous - but that's countered by simply speeding up the narration (I liked 1.5x). I found Without Feathers to start off with far more promise than Getting Even. Unfortunately most of the good stories are at the front, with the end of the book trailing off into what can only be described as either confused ramblings, or intentionally random flights of fancy. But if you like Woody Allen's style, you'll love these books - the narration is superb.
great light listen - high on the list of comedies
comic story, ever changing , situation jokes, play on words, but also some deep thoughts (as usual)
you need to like Woody Allen's voice
Hilarious stories sprinkled with Topsy-tourvy story line logic (or lack thereof ... :-)) makes these short books a great listen for all the fans of Monty Python-like humor. Well, you need to like the voice of the author, though.
Highly recommended as an interlude to your regular
The best is having Woody Allen reading his own material. Very entertaining!! I enjoyed the short stories and the dilemmas his characters get in, all too funny!
Somebody on here said he sounded old. No, he sounded like he's always sounded -- nervous and a little nerdy. I could not detect any oldness in his voice in these recordings.
What was clear to me in his voice was his usual strange sense of humor. These are great recordings. If he sounds old, I suggest you upgrade your download quality from AM radio to mp3 or higher. Everybody sounds old on AM radio.
This is great stuff. Get this and lighten up for a while.
These books have been old friends of mine for many years. And now to hear them read by the author, I know I will return to them again and again. This was a great purchase!
I like the book a lot (I have it in printed version as well), but the narration is quite difficult to follow (at least for me as non-native English speaker). It's a continuous stream of words, hard to guess where the paragraphs finish.
Purchase only if you like disjointed humor. I listened for a short time and will delete. I like Woody Allen for his humor but this goes beyond my limited comprehension.
Don't waste your money. This story was self indugent and boring. There wasn't really any story, just Woody Allen reading his shopping list. Sicofants will like this story.
I use to think Woody Allen was a comical genius, and they say genius is just one step away from crazy. Well with this book Mr. Allen has taken that step. It's just random incoherent thoughts that are just not funny.
