Absolutely horrible. First of all the melodramatic narration is reprehensible. The narration is terrible and if that is not enough music is played in the back ground to further annoy one into a mood highly unlikely to enjoy listening to the Bible. I wanted a well narrated Bible to enjoy not a pathetic attempt at play acting the scripture by Hollywood’s finest. What a waste of my credit. If you are looking for a simple easy to follow reading this is not for you. If you’re into ridiculous melodrama then have at it.
I've purchased other audio Bibles but this Word of Promise Audio Bible truly brings God's word to life in a new way. This fully dramatized version draws you into the culture and gives a different perspective on the scriptures with sounds of the times in the background and the actors adding voice emphasis to the text. Absolutely recommend this to anyone who finds it hard to make time to sit down and read their Bible...I spend much time each day "chauffeuring" my children to school and various events...listening to the Word of Promise audio Bible helps put purpose in my day...perfect for a multi-tasking mom!
I love a good book...
This rendition of the Bible is very well done. I love the characterizations. This has taken my walk through the Bible much more of an aventure this year.
I have read the Bible more than once and it is literally the best book you will ever read. It has everything in it! This audible rendition of it brings it to life even more and you will not want to stop listening. I find myself laying back and just watching it in my mind. The voices, music and sound effects bring it to life like never before and this is something you can keep and listen to over and over again.
I love it so much, I bought the Audible edition after I bought the CD version so I could have it with me "on-the-go" in my phone.
My only complaint is that it's difficult to find a specific passage to listen to. It would be much appreciated if the books and chapters were renamed.
I just downloaded and unless I did something wrong there are only 17 tracks for the whole bible that are like 8 hrs long each! How am I supposed to find a passage I want to listen to? I had Word of Promise NT and it was broken up into books and chapters... Did I do something wrong? This doesn't do me much good.
I wanted an unabridged version of The Book because I've never had the time to read it cover to cover. I now understand that no one needs to read it cover to cover. Ugh.
The cast was very talented, but a majority of the old testament actors sound like whimpering pathetic B-rate talent.
Um. Who wrote this question?
This is a well acted, astonishing well produced presentation. I have owned 4 different Bibles on tape, CD and this one is by far the best. Michael York is probably one of the best ever actors for voice.
I like the blending of quiet music that did not detract from the story but aided in the telling.
Michael York, of course. He is one of the best.
I loved the telling of Genesis. I listened to the first 4 hours non-stop, and believe me, I never do that. But the reading, presentation of this story is fantastic.
Buy, buy this book and I highly recommend this Bible over all others.
A hardcore anti-theist: god doesn't exist, all religions are demonstrably false and poisonous. Heroes: Christopher Hitchens, Penn Jillette
Christopher Hitchens once said, "Those who can make you believe absurdities, can make you commit atrocities."
If you believe this book is the true work of a "loving" god, then you can rationalize any atrocity. I will be re-reading "God is not great" to wash this stupidity out of my brain!
I am amazed that people still believe in the bronze age bunkum.
Especially after reading it.
Penn Jillette said it best, "Reading the Bible (Or the Koran, Or the Torah) will make you an Atheist."
