I had to increase the read to 1.5 to 2 times the read speed to get thru a lot of this book. I find that all of the "begets" get in the way of the history. I haven't finished this yet. Can only take it in stages.
This audiobook is very well done. The different voices for the different characters make the story come alive with drama and interaction. The background music and sound effects are a nice touch.
The way this downloads it is impossible to just start at a certain book of the Bible. Was definitely not what I was looking for in an audio Bible and I now just use Youversion to listen to it. That said it is read in a style that is very good to listen too. I would give this 5 stars if I could choose what book I wanted to listen to.
I have never been deep into religion, but I wanted to learn more about the stories I remember hearing growing up. I purchased this version of the Bible, and really enjoyed the performance. I know some say they like just pure narration as to not take away from the message of the story, but for me, I enjoyed the performance angle. This is in my opinion the best copy of the NKJV on audio. It takes the edge off the overwhelming idea of getting caught up on everything and anything I wasn't familiar with. I would definitely recommend this anyone looking for the same.
The only draw back is the arrangement of the entire thing, Its kind of difficult to navigate through. I wish they would have made it a bit simpler and better outlined in chapter format.
When this book is played on the ipod touch (and perhaps any ipod) you can easily select the Chapters within the Part being played by pressing on the three little horizontal lines at the top right.pf the ipod. Below the scrolling Title name it also says which Chapter (i.e. Chapter 47 of 66) is playing. Despite using the same player on the iPad there is not the same flexibility. On the iPad you choose the Part (i.e Part 11 for Isaiah) and when playing you can move the wiper over with your fingure to advance through the book but there is no indication of which Chapter is playing - Very poor but seems to be an Apple issue not the software per se.
I really wanted to like this, but am very disappointed that I can't search or go back and forward to particular books or verses without a great deal of trouble. Amusingly too, I can't help but hear Dick Cheney in Richard Dreyfus' voicing of Moses. I don't think I'll listen to any of the other sections I downloaded. Bummer.
Regarding the layout: Although a bit tedious and time consuming at first, you can figure out and make a cheat sheet for finding each Bible book by looking at the number of chapters in each section. For example since the last section is Galatians - Revelation and has 98 chapters, you know Galatians is 1-6 chapters, and then Ephesians would start at chapter 7. Then knowing Ephesians has 6 chapters, the next book, Philippians would start at chapter 13 and so on. All you need is a list of bible books and how many chapters each has and you can work it out. Should you have to? No. It should have been laid out by book. But that's life, sometimes you have to work to get what you want.
I have tried several times to read the bible but time always got in the way. After downloading this I was able to plug in mp3 jack in my truck so now i listen everyday on the way to and from work. The music and sensationalism take what normally would be a hard listen into pure enjoyment
This captivating story never grows dull. The performers for the Audio Bible are believable and make the words jump from the pages.
The special effects are moving and captivating.
The narrator's are A-list performers and seem to effortlessly tell the story of the creation of the earth, the coming of the Son of God, and founding of the new testament church. This is the best audio book ever recorded and needed food for the soul.
The Greatest Story Ever Told
The voices are sometimes very hokie and distracting. The music can be odd also but overall I have really enjoyed this audioi book of the bible. I'm a new Christian and want to spend time daily in the word. Listening during my commute on Audible has been wonderful.
