I loved the author's voice/writing. Perfect, in my humble opinion. Straight forward, tightly crafted, brilliantly done.
I loved the mystery of not knowing how the hell the protagonist got away from the "freak." We know she's free at the start of the story, but the agony of her trials and how she escaped (and who was behind it all) were magnificently revealed in a chapter at a time, told through patient to psychiatrist.
Angela Dawe is one of the finest narrators I've yet heard. Kudos for representing the author in an authentic, sensitive, and delightful manner. Outstanding job!
Any book depicting abuse makes me cringe. Yet I also loved the way the author showed how almost human the freak could seem from time to time. Horrible, yet. But at times, almost likeable for short bursts of time. Well done, Ms. Stevens!
I'll be looking for more books by this talented new author. ;o)
I am a nurse, wife, daughter, sister, and student. I don't have much free time but when I find a minute I enjoying listening to a good book.
Makes you think...
Annie - she is strong and smart
The ending ....
The narrator was great!
I wasn't sure what to expect with this listen. It turned out to be excellent! The author, Chevy Stevens, gives enough detail about the conditions that Annie endures while held captive for a year without crossing the line of too much detail (there are many writers who go too far and lose me as a result).
Stevens was creative by having Annie tell her story in therapy sessions.
The narrator was good for this particular book.
No spoilers! Love HOT, sexy books w/a plot. No vampires, paranormal, teens 4 me. I also review in exchange for books-lots of fun surprises!
It was interesting to hear the story from the "victim" (non victim) point of view.
It was a HORRIBLE situation to have to imagine but the author and performer do an excellent job telling this fascinating ordeal.
She did a good job giving each character their own 'voice'.
Unique, refreshing and captivating
Obviously the woman telling her story. She lets you feel her emotions in a very different approach than most stories.
If I could have.
worth a listen.
I think how you are really able to see through the eyes of the woman who has been abducted. Good ending.
The lead character.
I loved Angela Dawe in psy-changling series. This one wasn't as good but she is still great.
I almost stopped listening very early on thinking it was going to degenerate into some kind of macho torture porn fantasy. Instead it is a deeply felt examination of human emotions that kept me up far too late. I literally could not sleep until her story had been told. I ended up listening to several sections again over the course of several days because the characters actions were so thought provoking, surprising, emotionally wrenching and yet completely believable.
Professional with a long commute. I listen in the car and it eases the stress of traffic.
I probably would not
Finding out who caused the events.
I have not. Nothing to compare to.
I was in tears while listening. Not the best while driving. Very moving story!
I don't know, but my guess is that it would be, because of the reader's ability to convey realistic emotion.
When Annie was first abducted and woke up on the cabin.
When Annie killed her abductor.
No; I like breaking it up.
This was a very entertaining book from start to finish. If you like suspense, it's a really good choice.
I really appreciated the performance, and enjoyed it as much, if not more, than reading the book.
The heroine was so "real".
She actually made the characters come to life for me.
