Interesting, Different and Funny
The characters were so very funny. The whole idea of steampunk was new to me and so very enjoyable
Yes, I believe she did differentiate the characters BUT the pauses between the paragraghs an chapters DROVE ME CRAZY! I thought my mp3 player was broken. I really think this can be easily fixed by whoever records the book.I am now on the 3rd book and because of the great pauses I am losing interest. Well, maybe not losing interest in the book just in the audio book. In fact, I believe I read over half of the first book and most of the second.Ms Gray is a slow reader too, which I can handle but not those durn pauses!!
If it were not for the great pauses ( and I even turned up the speed) I probably could have listened to the book in a sitting. You could shave at least an hour off of each book.
You CANNOT listen to this in the car if you are driving, you'll have time to fall asleep while waiting for the next part of the book to be read.
Before I buy any more of this readers book I will check out for LONNNG Pauussesss.
I really think this pause thing is a problem with the recording people.
The opening scene had me laughing out loud. Great writing and great narration. I could listen to this book again.
I thoughly enjoyed this delightful and original approach to a story of Vampires and Werewolves
If you are looking for a a fun light-hearted romp with werewolves and vampires in Victorian England this is the book for you.
I cannot sum it up in three words. The story is too rich.
Yes, it was a very fresh take. It is a wonderful mix of historical and fantastical issues, creations, etc. I love that the heroin is so intelligent and well red. I like the issue of the automaton.......never saw that one coming and very Mary Shelley. Great read!
What was the deal with the octopus symbol? I don't think I caught it or it may have not been explained. Also, I would love for the author to have given the heroin's mom more of what she deserved to rub her daughter's success in her face. But all in all very good read!
I had such a good time listening to this that I was actually looking for chores to do as an excuse to spend more time listening! The reader does an excellent job; I could listen to her read Lord McCann's lines for ages. No, she doesn't sound like such a physically powerful man but I could never have reproduced his brogue myself and for that alone I'd be happy to sing the praises of this book. Fortunately, there's much more to rejoice in. Alexia is a wonderful character and such a nice change from young, ignorant and indecisive heroines. The plot lines hum along well, never overshadowing each other so that you get a wonderful blend of romance and action and not so much the "romance with a little action thrown in randomly" that some books do.
Fair warning, this book has some spicy scenes! Well done though and (more importantly to me) not over-done.
I enjoyed this book so much I very nearly started listening again the moment it was finished. I decided to get the next book instead. I can't wait!
Lord McCann: "Under the circumstances, I really must insist you call me Connell."
Lord McCann. She was great with Alexia and Lord Fop Vampire With The Name That Begins With "A" but I loved rogue-ish, gruff, broug-ish Lord McCann the most.
I finished it hours ago and I still feel like laughing.
Say something about yourself!
An old world take on a flirty and fun romance with a touch of violence.
Oh gosh I wouldn't want to give anything away!
The different voices in this audio book have been incredibly entertaining and her accents are wonderful!
The first time he kissed her. :)
I absolutely love this book! I can't wait to listen to the second book!
Sorry, haven't read the printed edition.
A most memorable moment was when Alexia's family confront her in the parlor.
She injects the right amount of interest and character to the story.
I got this book because it sounded interesting in the summary, and I would get others in the series, I enjoyed this one so much.
Many of the reviews state how good this book is. I loved it and couldn't get enough. What I wanted to let people know is the Actor who narrated the store is truly excellent. The way she makes different voices and accents works very well. I started listening more than reading mainly to hear her rendition of the book. I have plowed through this book ( that could stand alone) and rushed into the second and then third book. The characters "voices" are like familiar friends. The book & Narrator is an excellent fit.
The Dragon Mother
When this first started out I wasn't too sure I was going to like it. But as the story continued, I liked it more and more. The book was set in old England and the reader (Emily Gray) gave a good English accent the English folks and even did a good job on the Scottish accent for the Lord of Werewolves, Lord Maccon.
Even though this book was a Paranormal Romance, there was more story than sex so it made this story doubly enjoyable for me. The steamy romance was well done and not overly described in such a way that made you feel like you were reading porn.
The reviews were so mixed on this one I almost I almost didn't get it, but I would of missed out on a really great story. It was the reference to Amelia Peabody that sold me. I love those stories and I wanted something fun and light hearted. PLUS finally a book with a werewolf as a main character! The tempo is a bit off in some area's but not enough for me to really care, I can put two and two together.
Anyone who like humor, whit and the supernatural should give this a listen!
