I found all the tips on dog training fascinating even though I don't have a dog; it was fun to listen too. I was also intrigued by all the comparisons between dog behavior and the villains behavior. Many have said they found the narrator too sing-songy. I REALLY enjoyed the narrator and found her voice soothing and enjoyable. If you're worried- just listen to a sample.
I would have rated this a 5 except for the blatant and constant over use of the F word. I get that the main characters were frequently frustrated by the circumstances and feeling threatened, but it's just "F" this and "F" that. Shows a lack of creativity in an otherwise fascinating book.
This is one of the best books I have listened to in a very long time. It was able to mix suspense with romance with a story that kept me listentening and I am honestly sad the book is over. Nora Roberts really is the best there is at this.
I have never read Nora Roberts and a friend recommended this book. I love dogs and the main character teaches you how to train and love your animals. It was great reading with a wonderful plot that held me in suspense. I enloyed it from beginning to end.
I like the author's description of the scenario, although in a few sections it was too detailed. You can see the island, the dogs and the woods while you listen. The narrator does a bad male voice and a bit too simplistic in her tones. All in all, a nice romance novel with an expected ending.
Whilst I loved the story. The narrater was so dull.Preferred the narrater on Nora Roberts book Chasing Fire she was a joy to listen to.
If you are not the type who enjoys shop talk and lectures about all aspects of dogs and dog training, skip this book. I seriously considered quitting it after the upteenth reminder that puppies need to be spayed/neutered. The dog talk overshadows everything--the plot, the dialog, everything--until the last 2 hours or so. Very annoying.
This book was my first Nora Roberts experience without it being complete Romance. Sure, she's had plenty of suspense and drama in her other books, but this was more about the mystery and bringing a killer to justice. I loved my adventure in "The Search." There was some romance but it was intertwined sporadically during the build up of the story and really became climactic right when the plot of the killer came to fruition. I enjoyed how the two were conversely built.
There were places where the story was slow. I wasn't sure where the story was headed in the first couple of chapters. I felt like I was coming in during the middle of the story, which isn't always bad, but in hindsight, it wasn't really that important to start out the book. It could have been introduced a chapter or two later and not as the introduction. After that, things get going and there are only minute areas where you wish the story would pick up.
This is the first book I've listened/read by Nora Roberts. Saw all the Lifetime Movies for TV and enjoyed those but never listened/read anything more. Can't say enough about this audio book. The storyline is great love the mystery and enjoyed listening to Tanya Eby another good narrator. Narrator's are just as important as the writer of the story for they bring the book to life and making it move at the proper pace. This had it all. l've recommended it to all family, friends & co-workers. Totally great.
