This book was disappointing and a bit odd. Who would have thought that you would have to add Hobbits to a book to make it interesting??? The narration drove me crazy with far too many "she said" "I said" "he said" throughout. Lorelei King does a great job with the voices of each character and she doesn't need to add who said what to every single interaction. Someone please tell the editor for the audible version!!!
Just nothing like the earlier books .A shame as I always loved the books in this series but last few were not anywhere near as good and this was just not something I wanted to even finish listening to..Wish I had waited would not get it given a second chance.
It is book 16, the characters are familiar, established, and yes still funny. Evanovich's writing and King's delivery makes for good entertainment and even manages to make me laugh out loud.
If you have never read one of Stephanie Plum adventures go to the beginning (One for the Money) and fall for this slightly insane woman bounty hunter who has terrible (but funny) luck with cars, truly insane friends, family and criminals.
I have listened to Lorelei King narrate this series long enough that she feels like and old friend. While there are certainly struggles for any author to keep a series fresh across this many titles (16 + 4 Between the Numbers), I still feel like the characters are worth a visit. I think the best part of these books is the humanity of the characters and their daily struggles.
This particular installment focuses on Vinny, a degenerate bail bondsman that has run up a significant gambling debt and must "face the music." It's not my favorite of the series, but there are the trademark things to love, a little humor, some tenderness, and plenty of romantic tension.
If you are a fan of this series ... you will recognize the things you love about Stephanie and the gang!
Very much like this author
after 16 it is still fresh!
Lola of course!
too funny not to laugh
This is a great series, Janet E keeps it fresh even after the 17 I have read so far. Love the characters and especially the narrator!! Thanks!
I prefer to listen to my books
Stephanie, she stumbles right into success!
When they shot at the mobsters in the bails bond office
If I had the time I could have listened to it from start to finish
Former Waitress, Chargeback clerk, Clown, Florist owner, Clergy. Love series, humor, twists, history, mysteries, not into witches/bondage.
I had waited eagerly for this book. I am now about half way through. Janet take a vacation from writing and regain your delightful twists and turns. I can't believe the same person wrote the dumpster dive in a previous book. Stephanie deserves better! Bring her back to life.
I struggled through the end and warned my friends not to buy the hard cover book, but wait for the paperback if they still want to read it. I was very disappointed in the explicit "game" language for the convention. Janet, you have always been very good with sexual implications, but being explicit is not the style of writing we want from you. Sixteen lacked interaction between Stephanie, Ranger, and Joe. So sad...
I read some of the reviews which panned this episode as not up to par. I didn't find that to be the case, but I'm not very demanding in my taste. I was looking for a light-hearted romp and this one delivers--perhaps not as well as my favorite to date--volume 12--but that one was a bladder-buster, maybe because I was on a long, boring trip up I-95. If you like Stephanie and Lula, and you're willing to accept that you're not going to get War and Peace with a laugh-track, you'll enjoy Sizzling Sixteen.
