I like angsty books, but Amy Lane often skates that line between really angsty or just painful. this book was painful like Chase in the Shadow, while I enjoyed Chase, I didn't Deacon's descent into depression hell.
Plus, I think I am one of the few that don't enjoy Sean Crisden other than as Ty & Zane. I am not sure why, but I only like him in Cut & Run. If I get book two, I will read it not listen to it.
I read this series a couple of years ago and decided to re-read before the final book is released later this month. I haven't done an audio book in a long time and wanted to give it a try. It was fantastic!
The book itself is phenominal, Amy Lane is an amazing author. The depth to this story is undescribible until you have read it. I love Deacon and Crick best, out of all the boys in the series. The pain, the joy, the love, the sex, the heartache and angst, oh, just amazing.
I liked the reading and was happy to see I could speed up the rate a bit. I hadn't tried this before, and was able to get the audio book on my phone and plug it in to my car. It's partially made up for my Kindle issues.... I upgraded to the Paperwhite but it doesn't have text to speech, which I have used daily to go back and forth between reading and listening. This way I'm listening to one book and reading another, but it seems to be working ok for me.
So the story, plot, writing, etc are wonderful, and the audio version works just fine!
I am a 30 year old over-the-road truck driver. I listen to A LOT of audiobooks!
This novel has a little bit of everything: War, Horses, Gay Love, Biggots, Natural Disaster, and more. Amy Lane brings people from all walks of life together into one large extended family.
One thing I have problem with a lot of MM novels are that you really get to know one character really well while the other characters motives and thoughts are somewhat vague. I am not saying that it is not described, it's just not really expressed. For example, we get to know about Jory really well in (:A Matter of Time,by Mary Calmes)] on the other hand Sam not really. Well I suppose this could be said about a lot of romance novels. You get to know the heroines extremely well like a good girl friend, but the heroes not really.
BUT in this story we are invited to join both of the main characters' mind and hearts. It makes the story a bit longer and maybe dragging in some parts, but I loved it. I am looking forward to continue reading the series.
This is a sweet story and Amy Lane isnt bad. I liked the characters she created, flawed and at the same time kind and compassionate. The narrator really need to stop screeching in that annoying tone when speaking for some of the characters!
I liked the writing style. The story was also very real. It felt real and I think the author did justice to the content. Well done. The story was a bit long. It wouldn't have been so bad if it wasn't for the fact that most things towards the end had been mentioned constantly in the beginning of the book. if felt a bit redundant at times because of this. But I'd still give this book a thumbs up. The characters were well done.
Yes. I would, the voice range has gotten better with time and it will continue to improve, no doubt.
This book was great but long. I was emotionally invested in it until the last 3 hours. I felt like that part could have been done faster and not rehash things that the reader already knows. also, the second guessing became a bit redundant. The book was beautiful and the story was great but not perfect. If there is ever an abridged version, I would be interested in listening again. Well done though, overall, and I am a fan of Amy now.
Honestly I doubt it because I don't have any friends that read gay romance as I am a straight woman and only recently took a chance on something new and different.
Deacon and his devotion and love to everyone in his circle.
yes and he was great as always, at least with the ones I have listened to so far.
Yes, but more than one. When Deacon broke down and cried in the hotel after Crick left. When Deacon lost it when Crick mentioned he wanted to leave to visit his friend's family that died in the Army.
If only everyone could have a Deacon in their life!
The book was good, A bit long. A bit emotionall may want listen in a private place.
I enjoyed the ride along with their emotional and relational growth. The story arch is perfect, I felt like a part of their family by the end looking toward the future with Crick and Deacon. Oh, yes, sexual encounters were hot and realistic at the same time. Love it, highly recommend it.
