This book is horrible! Audible's recommendation of this book is a disgrace. This author uses the F word like the rest of us breathe. What is waste of time and money. Do something that's agonizing, it would be more entertaining.
I too gave up on the book after the main character was brutally beaten too many times. It just made no sense beyond the author's desire to graphically describe violence, sex and vomit. I could never believe that any real person would act like the main character and so could never care what happened to him.
I wish I had my money back.
The narration on this was fantastic, the story itself was poorly written. The main character has no background given, the story just begins in what feels like the middle and races around at breakneck speed, but seems to have no discernible direction. I had high hopes for this series, but it utterly failed to engage me.
I'm English', I swear a fair bit myself and do not find it offensive but this book is over the top. It actually became boring to listen to yet another pointless rant. At times it seemed like the swearing and graphic descriptions of sex etc were just to try and pad out the book a bit. Swearing, vulgarity etc are usually used to really get the reader to understand the situation or the characters mood but too much just makes it pointless. I had listened to the previous book and enjoyed it hence I purchased this one. I won't waste my money on anymore though.

Alert: Do not spend $19.95 for this unless you enjoy overheated, overwritten prose in the service of a clumsy plot that features monstrous police and their ferret underlings, a weepy pseudo-tough guy narrator and no-good bigots shown for who they are, in soap opera black and white. In short, no nuance, no good sentences and stumble-bum dialogue. The best of British crime writing? Wow. Talk about oversell. I want my money back.
