I’m thrilled that I’ve found a series that I can use as my go to listen when I am just not finding a book that is speaking to me. After a few clunker audiobooks choices, I decided to head back to Minnesota to the Canadian/American border for another Cork O’Conner story. It turned out to be a perfect decision for gliding back into another one of these series was akin to flopping in my favorite chair with a cup of cocoa. I will be savoring my stash of series because of them.
This second in the series takes place in the Quetico-Superior Wilderness. It was especially enjoyable to catch up on some of the familiar characters that were in the previous novel. The unique characters that were brought in for this novel were a tad too unique. They verged on cheesy, yes, but I am mostly interested on the repeating core characters. A popular singer seeks seclusion in the boundary waters. An increasing amount of people feel the need to find her. When it appears that she is in danger, Cork and associates step in. This novel contained just the right amount of twist and turns and adventure. I enjoy the spiritual undertones and the folklore that doesn’t feel like hullaballoo or nor is it over dished or preached.
I love the narrator, the book is well written> I'm happy to say I am hooked on this series. I love the characters and the chance to learn more about Native American life and wisdom's. What a treat!
First time I read Kreuger. As Minnesotan I was impressed. Well written and well read. The Native American backdrop enhances the book's power.
Say something about yourself!
I found this book to be well written and well narrated. For the plot and characters I find no reason to deduct a star. The same holds true with narration. This is my second book by this author and I liked it equally as well. I'll continue reading her books by adding one to my wish list.
too many audio books, not enough time!
William Kent Krueger is a master story teller, who weaves a wonderful world of complex, fully human characters into difficult, life threatening situations which are thrillimg and mysterious and heart thumping and vivid, all at the same time. I'm hooked. will buy all audio books produced by this author.
Say something about yourself!
This book holds you from the beginning to the end. It has well developed characters and the story rolls along rapidly.
I enjoyed this just as much as I enjoyed the first book in the series, "Iron Lake."
I also liked how the mystery kept me guessing. The setting in Boundary Waters of northern Minnesota was great. I liked the main characters, especially Cork O'Connor.
The plot twists and turns and is a great suspense. I look forward to reading future books by William Kent Krueger. Excellent job by narrator David Chandler!
First read ordinary grace. a stand alone novel. Absolutely a 5 star book.
Now I am a fan. characters in the cork series are well developed. sometimes plot is very convenient. You need to relax, suspend reality and have some fun. If you like comfortable, familiar old friends the cork series is up there with the good ones. If you want high literature go read James Joyce (barf)
