I have been waiting anxiously for this book. It was better than I thought it would be. Love the audio as well.
I wasn't too fond of the first Hathaway book, but I have liked each one more. This is the best so far. Leo and Cat is a delightful story.
I love all genres of books. However, when I listen to audio books as I clean, garden, drive they are better with a lot of heat!
If you enjoy romance with witty dialogue, well-developed (and stubborn) characters, who are driven by a plot that should not be plausible but is made comepletely real by this wordsmithy author, then this is a book for you. Or perhaps you just like bonnet-eating ferrets... that'll work too. If i had more than two thumbs, it'd be all thumbs up from me. Rosalyn Landor is amazing as a narrator and brought this book to life. This is a book I will listen to again.
audio addict! Mostly interested in history and some historical fiction. Will Durant is my all time favorite. Loving the Great Courses too.
I adore this book. And I'll listen to it again many times in the future. I don't think it could have been better. Passionate, funny, enthralling-- just the perfect love story.
Lisa Kleypas has written a fantastic series! Very highly recommended.
I think this book had a great start--it hooked me right away but the author seemed to spend all her time in the male protagonist's head and very little in the female's. Also, she was kind of annoying. To be honest I haven't even finished this book because it was annoying me so badly. I will pick it back up at some point because I hate to not finish it. But this story needed to go in a different direction or something. Also, this is a Rosalyn Landor narration. Buyer beware: while she would be a great fit elsewhere, Rosalyn does not belong in the romance category.
I am going to give one of Lisa's newer books a try. I know that this is one of her earlier books and she may have honed her craft a little better since writing this one.
It's her cadence and the way she inflects. She needs to remember that this is a romance novel. She should try to sound mysterious or seductive. Or heck, just sound normal. Instead, it sounds like my third grade teacher is reading to me. I don't mean to be harsh because she reads at a good speed and speaks clearly but she just needs to be in a different genre.
Yeah, quit reading it. Sorry, lots of sex does not a romance make. Why do these two love each other? The author didn't really demonstrate the connection. Yes, she SAYS they love each other, but what do they DO to SHOW that they love one another? Very little. Certainly nothing dramatic. The female character needs work. The whole thing needs work. But, i can at least see that the author has potential so I am going to give one of her later pieces a try. Wish me luck!
She has a secret past and is a caretaker for the youngest sister. He is the oldest brother and drawn to her. Neither likes the other...until they do. The past challenges their present and future together.
...and they lived happily ever after.
This is the story of Leo and Cat, who have been circling each other for a couple of books. Everyone knows they secretly are intrigued by each other, but it becomes more important to address it now that there's the possibility that the family might not get to keep their home due to a legal snag unless Leo produces a legitimate male heir within a year. Some really interesting things are discussed in this story like Leo's drug addition and how he has dealt with it. I'd say it wouldn't have been easy to kick an opium habit in those days. I'm impressed with the development of this story and how Leo and Cat overcome tremendous emotional barriers on both sides to love. Well done, as always. The dangerous twist in end of this story was an important one. It was quite shocking to me, too. I did love the brother angle (one who always saves his sister, one who never did). It was a nice touch.
I love this performance, except there was one line that was supposed to be either Poppy or Cat and it was delivered as Harry. It was funny as I have never had that happen before!
All business but contemporary fun!
Fun, sensual, intriguing!
Leo is guaranteed to entertain you throughout this book!!!
The story of Leo's past, his mourning, self distraction, rescue and finally remake of a better self was showcased in the prior three books and is well understood at this point. What comes with the fourth installment is the unravelling of all his defenses from his pursuit of the unrelenting Cathrine Marx. They are long time enemies and as they circumstantially get to know each other, piece by piece, they have to fight the unavoidable pull between them while fighting their own demons.
Jovial banter between a highly moral Kat and a self deprecating Leo is thoroughly exhilarating!
