Amazing Fantasy Story!
The story teller! King is telling this story not from a third person, but like you were sitting around a fire listening to a story that has been passed around for generations. You get his feelings on the characters, his POV. A really great way to have the story told to you.
Flagg. He brings alive his evilness in all of its blackness.
The whole story is so well performed. Bronson articulates each persona so completely that it is a very compelling.
The story wasn't bad, the reader wasn't BAD, but wow was it put together BAD!!!
First, it seemed to pause/skip at every new chapter. and who's idea was it to put a new chapter every hundred words or so??? So what you get is a skip every 5 minutes or so.
Could Bronson have maybe have put a TINY BIT of emotion into this read????
Reminds me of the records we had to listen to in grade school........
I HAD to finish it just to see how it turned out, but it was almost PAINFUL at times........
PLEASE, REDO IT!!!! It could be ever so much BETTER!!!!
coming of age
Steven King writing a story for the story.
I would not have guessed how well Bronson Pinchot did. I was very sceptical
I listen to this book over and over
The storytelling was amazing. The narrative was outstanding. Period. The story itself was very atypical of fantasy. I enjoyed the inclusion of good ole' Flagg too. It wasn't your run of the mil King novel, either. Although there was virtually no combat scenes, it was full of action. The characters were astoundingly deep, with the exception of Peter, maybe.
The moment where Thomas witnesses the poisoning of Roland.
No. I've seen a few movies he stars in, but this was incredible. I am definitely going to research more books that he narrates.
I laughed a few times. I was on the edge of my seat most of the time.
I reccomwnd this story to people who like King's versatile writing style, fantasy with deep characters, or just a great story. I am regretful that it wasn't any longer, though.
The story was clean, great characters and kept me interested throughout. Always little connections to other King stories. The guy can write!
Peter was a fun character and of course Flag.
I don't write many reviews but everything I download from King seems better than the last.
Mu favorites are paranormal, supernatural, post-apocalyptic, and horror!
This story gives me a whole new perspective on Steven King's writing. It is not anything like the horror stories i am familiar with, but more of an epic tale set back in the time of kingdoms, peasants, large castles, and evil wizzards! I absolutely loved this book. It is my favorite Steven King book yet. The characters in this novel are believable and fully developed. Their thoughts and actions are so intricately described making them feel like someone the author knew rather than simply invented for a story.
The style in which this story was told was a refreshing change of pace. Instead of trying to keep the reader in suspense of what happened next, the narrator reported what was to happen upfront, then let the story unfold at it's own pace to reach the already known conclusion. This was quite different than what i am used to and at first i thought i did not like it. But the evolving story line was so enticing that i found i preferred this type of narration after all. It was not about "What was going to happen" but "How was it going to happen." This made the novel much more about the characters' journey than the novel's destination, which suits my style much better overall.
I could not put this book down. I had to know how the tale came about. I recommend this book without reserves and plan on reading it again myself sometime soon! Enjoy!
You know how The Hobbit is the children's book for Lord of the Rings? This is the children's book for the Dark Tower series. You don't have to read Dark Tower series to enjoy this book. And I'd recommend reading this AFTER the series. I'd recommend reading it to read to your kids.
Anyways, it's not a bad book. Some good humor and good characters. Most are flat, but not many 'tales' like this have round ones. And is it bad my favorite character is the villain? He's pretty scary.
My problem is some of the scenes are long and unnecessary. If King wrote this for his kids, it was definitely a bedtime story cause I wanted to fall asleep a few times. But then a good part comes along and I can hear myself saying 'Come on, one more chapter!'
Flagg. I can hear the tweaking they did for his voice. But he's pretty good at sounding scary.
yess the storytelling is great
the gunslinger because there is true imagination
no I've not had the chance before but loved it will look for more of his preformances
Some gaping holes in the plot
Though the depiction is simplistic, it's sparkling vibrance is addictive. Bronson Pinchot's narration is enchanting!
Unlike most of King's work, this is adolescent fantasy. The plot is a little weak at times, but the style is rich and enjoyable. And Bronson Pinchot's performance is superb. I could listen to this man read the phone book.
