While I feel the book itself was a decent book (not great, just decent), the narrator was just painful to listen to at points. Most of the voices the narrator made just sounded whiny and annoying. Then of course there were the moments where the narrator whispered into the mic. Few things are as annoying as listening to whispered audio.
Fewer whiny voices and less whispered reading.
Yes, I would definitely recommend this audiobook to a friend. Blood Oath crosses genres in a unique and interesting way. Fans of the vampire genre will enjoy the unique character of Nathaniel Cade. He is otherwordly in ways that are not reflected in most current vampire fiction these days. The supernatural themes require some obvious suspension of disbelief but that is expected with "fantasy" fiction. Those who like the more standard chick-lit vampire fare will be disappointed. Nathaniel is handsome but he is not of the loveable, sexy type. Christopher Farnsworth does an excellent job presenting an engaging and fast-paced adventure. Fans of adventure and action books will enjoy the ride. Cade's blood oath to the President of the US is a unique and clever plot device.
Blood Oath is unique. Perhaps closest to Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan as a vampire chasing Frankenstein.
Bronson Pinchot amazed and surprised me. Knowing him mostly from the screen fron the 80's Bosom Buddies I was delighted by his rich voice and the nuances he brought to the characters. Which character was my favorite? It is hard to decide. I liked so many. His portrayal of Cade was dead on. I loved Zack Barrows and look forward to seeing him grow and develop in future books.
Zack was very funny and provided alot of humor in what could have been very serious situations. Pinchot's portrayals were great.
This was a very enjoyable listen. I was eager to get through the book and sorry when it ended. The big bad character is set up to reappear again. Great start to a new and exciting series.
Monsters are REAL
Zach and Cade's interactions are well written and draw you ever deeper into the story. The mini-flashbacks provide great insight into the beginnings of Cade's story, but their brevity allows the main story to continue it's fast pace toward a very satisfying crescendo.
Fantastic work. My first listen to Mr. Pinchcot, and I'm now a dedicated fan of his work.
Monsters are real, and want to end us all. But we have a secret weapon... our very own Monster.
Get this book! And then get the next two! And then wait impatiently (like me) for the next installment!
The narrator is very good at the various character's voices.
Yes, I purchase audio books so that I can do other things at the same time that I listen, (pay bills, check email, do things around the house). I got nothing done, I just listened to the book.
No I haven't but I am impressed with him.
When Cane fought the order to drink human blood. It was sad.
I live to ride my bike.
yes. it is a new twist on a vampire without a "love" story under tone
The mission with Zach and Cade. Funny. You have the reluctant sidekide Zach and a Vampire you have a problem with the 20th century spoken word.
Yep and really tried. I would listen as I was falling to sleep.
I Immediately purchase the second book in the series. I found this series to be very good because you don't have the doe eyed love struck interest. Cade is a man on a mission and it is great to see him doing his thang.
In pursuit of truth, justice, and an end to spoilers!
The premise for this book is so much fun! It's a good story, but not quite great.
This sounded like a supernatural version of the television program "24" and in many ways it was, but I found it to be less emotionally involving, and the action was more packed toward the end.
This might have gotten five stars from me if I'd connected more with the characters. Cade himself is pretty interesting, and the way he holds himself aloof makes perfect sense. But the rest of the characters could have used a little fleshing out. The bad guy is purely dislikeable and would have been more interesting if he'd had some redeemable features. The plot takes place over a few days so there wasn't time for Zach to grow much as a person, and he could sure use it. Perhaps I just prefer complicated characters!
Pinchot handled the various accents very well, but he was a bit drier as a narrator than I'd expected from an actor. This was the first time I'd heard him narrate, and I couldn't decide if he was purposefully playing up Cade's reserve or if that's par for the course with him.
I'd listen to the next book in the series but didn't rush right over to download it. I'll probably get to it sometime when I'm in the right mood.
I am a Chef and have two boys. I also have 2 accounts.
The book and series was really enjoyable, although the action scenes were at a minimal. It was more of a mystery, but still worth the money and time.
The Character of Cade is just cool
very much so. There are lots of twists and turns I enjoyed it.
I actually enjoyed all his characters. He did a GREAT job!!! I sincerely look forward to listening to this whole series provided HE is the narrator... just downloaded the second book.
When Cade called Zach by his first name.
I enjoy the supernatural book and got this one on sale and enjoyed it thoroughly! I can't recommend it strongly enough. It just grabs you and pulls you in and when the car stops you just want to listen more...!
If you want to listen to something that will spark your imagination and have you chuckling once in a while, be sure to get this book. I thought that the characters developed nicely, and the story line is original, to say the least. I quite like Cade and his handlers, Griff and Zach. Am looking forward to the next one, which I will be starting today.
All mysteries all the time, that's what I read. I joined Audible when I started having a long commute. Now I listen everywhere!
So sad, I've finished both Cade books, now there are no more! These are totally engrossing, Zack is a great character, a perfect foil for Cade. More, more, more!!
