Love to read!
I generally like Linda Howard's books and think she is a good author. This book had a story line and characters that I just couldn't get over. The main female character is a complete idiot with no back bone. No one in their right mind would put up with the cruelty of "the love of her life." I almost stopped listening for good many times. However, the book keeps you wanting to know what happens next and the writing style is strong. I managed to finish it and once the main male character stops being a complete JERK, the book gets really good. However, I still couldn't get over how he had treated her in the past and rooted for her to leave him the whole time.
I just Love the Allure of a Great Romance...a Pair of Rose Colored Glasses...some Fine Wine, and a Subscription to Audible...
I was very disappointed in After the Night by Linda Howard; although I will say that Natalie Ross gave a decent performance with her narration.
I found the book to be disturbing because it seemed to glamourize abuse. The lead male, Gray was the "rich kid" in town, who had a lot of influence and basically bullied his way into getting whatever he wanted, when he wanted it, whether it was right or wrong. Good looking, and athletic, described in the book as basically a town hero, but his actions were not that of a hero. As a young adult, he was sexually attracted to a 14 year old girl. He yelled at women, and used his strength to get what he wanted while convincing his victim that, "you know you want it." I just don't see him as being worthy of "hero status", just because he is suppossedly good looking. No matter how you packkage it...abuse is abuse.
The female lead had a better character than Gray, although she idolized him so much that she couldn't seem to recognize his bad behavior for the abuse that it was.
Unexceptable behavior. I found it difficult to engage with these characters. This will probably be the last Linda Howard book that I purchase.
I would put this in one of my favorites
I thought it was a great story & the sex scenes were very hot
It is pretty close to the top. I love this story it was told a such a way that it kept me on the edge of my sit.
How the character is a cute bad ass and from the description of her put you at aw.
If she has read for Ms Howard before. I loved her voice it was emotion packed and really draws you in.
PLOT: Faith Devlins returns to the home town where her family was "ran out of town" years ago is still a very unforgiving place.
the DEVLINS family are considered the "white trash" of the parish where young Faith Devlin and her family live. RUN out of town by the rich ROUILLARD famly. Now an adult Faith returns the town where she is still is treated like dirt. Her youthful passion for HUNKY Gray Rouillard who also LETS her know HE wants her gone one way or another. Grays father and Faith's mother had an affair and skipped town years ago which lead to the DEVLINS being ran out of town on a rail no less. Faith hires a detective for find her mother and the secrets build. Gray wants Faith gone AFTER he has a sex with her in that order. The passion and lust builds and soon Gray cannot keep his hands off of Faith and a very fun and HOT scene in a bathroom has you laughing this hot couple. The ADDED shock of a 15 year old murder has you glued to very good mystery. This is of the VERY best Howard couples. The READER is also first RATE. I give this one solid 5s for Story, romance, reader and great Howard Audiobook.
yes,but if it reads as this one did more of a romance novel I would not pick this writter again.
I would have put this book into the Romance section not the mystery section.
The story was enjoyable and kept you wanting to know what was next. THere was romance, comedy and suspense.
When the two main characters have their moment in the public restroom. This was my favorite part.
I love how she went from one character to the next in the argument moments.
This book made me laugh and kept me in awww throughout most of the book.
"After the Night" is the best Linda Howard book I have read/heard, and Natalie Ross is a GREAT talent. Few Narrators have the ability to change their voices from female to male so completely, with the ability to make the characters live, drawing you into the story. The book is more than 11 hours of listening pleasure, and although I had to take few breaks I didn't want to stop listening to it. If you like Mystery Romance, this book is a must.
The entire story was just dirty thoughts and talk leading to lots of sex. Not much time spent on a story. A little loving is ok, but I kept fast forwarding to find the story.
Audio Addict! Usually listening to History these days. Love Will Durant most of all authors!
Oh my god is all I can say. This is the first Linda Howard book I've listened to, and it is easily my favorite novel in 10 years. Excellent narrator. Excellent plot. But Grey and Faith have so much passion and chemistry. I got chills and goosebumps during some of their "love" scenes.
I'm a romantic at heart and I had a crush as a little girl too. There is a sweet and tender nature to their relationship, not just passion.
The story is heartbreaking at times and full of suspense.
I am giddy thinking about how much I loved this.
If you like romantic suspense, romantic, or mystery novels, don't hesitate. Get this now!! Linda Howard has a new fan !!!
