    "Can I give 6 stars?"

This was a great "oldie but goody" from Linda Howard. The character development is great, the storyline interesting and compelling, and the male lead is off-the-charts sexy! I also loved the female lead for her determination not to let her family's dysfunction define her. This story is hot, funny and utterly absorbing. Oh, and the narration was top-notch.

Great way to spend a credit!

    "Finally!!!"

I agree with the review below - classic Linda Howard and one of my favorites. I was very excited to see this one available since I have been looking and waiting for this one to become available on audible. I'm still waiting for 'A Game Of Chance' & 'Mr. Perfect' then I will be complete. lol. The narration was excellent, I'll be looking for more from both Linda Howard and Natalie Ross.

    "I don't get it..."

I've enjoyed many of Linda Howard's books - but not this one. If you like books that feature women who decide they are "in love" with men who
treat them badly - then this is for you.

Even though Gray was fully aware that Faith was completely innocent of her family's bad behavior, he was abusive to her throughout the majority of the book(called her trash, tried to drive her out of town, manipulated the rest of the town to snub her and refuse her service). His rationale for treating her badly is that he wanted to protect his mentally ill mother and sister - so at best, this makes him a lame mama's boy. Of course, Gray wanted to sleep with Faith even when he was trying to drive her out of town - and he expected her to be "on board" for that.

Faith, on the other hand, had many redeaming qualities, but the fact that she decided that she was in love with Gray, regardless of the fact that he NEVER treated her well - made it impossible for me to have any respect for her. As far as I can tell, as a child, Faith decided she loved Gray because of his looks - I can accept that since she was a kid. What I can't understand is why a full grown woman would be "in love" with a man who, for no rational reason, has always treated her badly.

I know my opinion strays from the rest of the reviewers - but I found this book painful to listen to.

    "Not so Good!"

Except for Faith and Gray there was very little character build up with the other subjects in this book. Also a lot of the things that happened in the book were unrealistic, like the swim under the dock. The love making was brutal and again unreal especially the public restroom episode.

    "Great book"

I know why this was one of Linda Howard's favorites it is one of mine too. The story sucks you in and doesn't let go until the end. I would listen in the car, walking, any moment I could because I just couldn't put it down. The chemistry between the two main characters is very well written. Great steamy romance with a interesting ending. Still not sure how I feel about the Monica and Alex issue - a little creepy for me but Gray and Faith are great. Worth a credit!

"This is no 4+ star book"

This was my 1st and most likely last Linda Howard book ??? I got because most gave it great reviews. What gives with you guys who gave it 4+ stars? First of all I didn???t like how Linda Howard treated a child with Down???s syndrome in the book ??? raised by a younger sister in a shack full of drunks and idiots only to die. Disgusting!! Second I did not like how she treated the main female character is this book. Gray, an adult is sexually aroused by a young girl in her flimsy night gown -- as he is literally throwing the family (yes including the kid with Downs) from the shack which on his property. Double Disgusted! I would have to agree with Malcolm???s review ???If you like books that feature women who decide they are "in love" with men who treat them badly - then this is for you.??? And Ms Howard I am glad to see that After the Night is one of your favorites.

"I truly wish there were something like a - STAR!!"

I was appalled and repelled by this book! Everything about it is stereotypical, and dubious. The female lead is a Sainted Sister, rearing her (yes, believe it) doomed Downs Syndrome brother in a shack full of drunks and idiots (her "dysfunctional" family.) Really. Can anyone actually relate to the male character's "throbbing member" when he sees this girl in her slip -- as he is evicting the family from the shack which on his property. OY, PULEEZE. I was truly astonished that hundreds of people rated this book 4+ stars. I've gotta get into the romance writing genre if the writing in this book "enchanted" and was "so sexy!"...GAGGING SOUNDS.

    "OHHHH WOWWWWWW"

This is the sexiest, hottest book I've listened to in a long time. I keep looking around for my pirate! But, alas, I live alone.

Grey was soooo knowledgeable in so many areas, especially cleaning up messes and massages. Faith is another strong heroine like Daisy from Open Season. That was my first intro to Linda Howard, then I went to Cover of Night and haven't stopped yet, but didn't know about this one.

Wow. A wonderful surprise, wonderful treat, great listen, a well used credit and Natalie Ross was the deliverer. A definite replay....over and over again.

    "Bravo !!!!"

Ditto and ditto!! I thoroughly agree with the previous two reviewers. This was the first Linda Howard book that I ever read and I anxiously anticipated having the opportunity to hear it on audio. Her ability to write page-turning suspense and passion is unbeatable, particularly when narrated by Natalie Ross.
The story-line of Faith, who grew up dirt poor with an alcoholic father and adulterous mother, was inspiring as you watch her become a successful young woman. The romance between Faith and Gray, the hunky scion of a wealthy family, was perfect. Great book and well done audio.

    "Very Predictable"

This was my first Howard book and not sure if I will buy another one unless it's on a very good sale. I had read what the other reviewers wrote and thought I'd give it a shot. I was able to finish the book but was disappointed that I figured out the "who done it" so quickly and how corny and predictable it was. Hate to be so contrary to the other reviewers who loved it, but I have listened to over 200 other books in the category and this was very mediocre at best.
