I loved Robert Goodman and Estelle! And I grew to like Mycroft more. Although later I would of happily kicked him. Mary's journey, new friends and grandchild made the story for me. Her companions were interesting, memorable, people you'd want to know. They rescued the story. Mary's part at the end seem to balance the books. I agreed with her choice especially when everyone else around her, save Robert G., were blind to all but their own worlds. Ironically, the crazy man saw further than anyone else. At the end, I wished for more Robert Goodman. And the epilogue was just right.
One of the best yet of the Mary Russell series. Robert Goodman is a character for the ages. Though only appearing in brief snatches, he steals the show from Mary Russell and the Holmes brothers.
Speaker, Coach, Author - in Reno, NV (A GREAT place!) I've been an avid Audible fan for several years. Listen on my iPhone many hours each week.
I know this series eventually runs out, but I am ordering the next one within the next minute and will start listening tonight.
I hope Russell & Holmes are together more in the next book instead of working as separately as they did in this book.
This Mary Russell story is excellent as always. It is a little different as she and Holmes spend a fair amount of the time apart - but at this point their relationship is solid and it works well. I especially liked some of the new characters such as "the green man."
It is a hard one to put down.
I have loved this whole series of stories.
I am also a collector and appreciate great quotes. This book is the series is especially clever.
The only bad thing, is that I enjoy them so, I listen nearly nonstop.
Really enjoyable books. The reader is excellent. The plots are interesting and enticing.
Mary Russel is quite the woman for that age...creative, ingenious, but not as good as Holmes....YET.
