I've enjoyed all the Reacher novels in the past but I'm beginning to tire of the formula Mr. Child repeats for his novels. The plots are different, yet the same. While its fun to have a larger than life character in Jack, it's getting more and more unbelievable with each book. I read some complaints in other reviews about Dick Hill's narration but I disagree, I think he does a good job and embraces Jack Reacher's character.
If you follow the Reacher series then this is a great read, maybe not one of the best in the series but it leaves you wondering.
I am an avid eclectic reader.
This is one of the best Reacher stories I have read. Lots of suspense and action. Learned more about Reacher than in the other books. Dick Hill is great in his reading of this story. I was surprised by the ending and can not wait for the next book. Hope there is one!
So, the author should have had a good military advisor. At one point it says that a character was busted from Major to Captain which would only be possible if it was a battlefield promotion which in the time frame this was set wouldn't have happened. Otherwise the story flows quite well and brings you along fairly well. I liked the narrator though the production should have been turned up a bit for volume.
I like Connelly and Coben better in this genre, but story was interesting. Reading was muddled and too soft making it very hard to hear when listening in a car. Probably would have enjoyed it more if I didn't have such difficulty hearing it.
I love the Reacher books - I'm on the edge of my seat until October when we find out what happens. Great book that started very slow but really took off about a quarter to a third of the way through.
I agree with a previous reviewer who said: "Not even close to the other books." I like Reacher novels and this one moved very slow in comparison. Possibly the abridged copy would be better. I also found the audio to be particularly poor (as compared to other Audible books.) I'd recommend passing on this one...
I listened to every one of Lee Childs' books featuring Jack Reacher. They are all great but this is the best one. It starts off strong and never lets up. I wish Lee Childs could write a book every month.
