I liked the reference to that old--love without freedom isn't really love. I felt like the author just reused old stuff and gave me a happy ending. Who doesn't like when things fit together nicely.
Lisette Lecat was a fabulous narrator! Truly an excellent interpretation as I like to think the narrator brings a unique window to the words.
Hmmm..... It seemed to simplify the people of Botswana and made me a bit uncomfortable.
I specifically like when she talked about the "comfort of an old friend" where "you can close your eyes". I don't know--nothing sticks out as fabulous. I liked how the husband respected his wife and she him. They worked hard & were respected for it. They respected themselves.
Do whatever you can do to bring to others....... I don't think it was really an inspirational type of story.... Just a quick escape sort of story.
Some listeners found this book slow; I found it thoughtful. It took me a while to warm to this series when I began with the print version. Having discovered the Audible version, I'm a fan. All the books have something to say about ethics and behavior. This one in particular asked what is the right thing to do vs what is the kind thing? How does one best respond to a certain type of person and how can one best teach? And, of course, there's the fond touch of human foolishness and Smith's deep affection for his characters.
Fun, enlighteing, wise
All in his series of Ma Ramotsway.
She sounds exactly like I picture the characters. Lovely cadence.L
Felt sorry sometimes but definitely laughed.
Just when I think there's no more to be said or done in the lives of these characters, here comes another engrossing and expanding book! Wouldn't miss a one of them, and haven't! I'm ready for more!
I can't get enough of The No.1 Ladies' Detective series, always entertaining and different. I recommend the series often to readers I know would love this series. It refreshing to get away from the overly descriptive books.
Alexander McCall Smith wrties lovely, gentle stories about ordinary people. His insights into our pettiness and kindness are universal. I love the No. 1 Ladies Detectvie Agency series!
Say something about yourself!
I guess A.M. Smith has run out of detective ideas to put into his books. This one is just a series of long slow exchanges between the female characters. They never actually do much of anything in the entire book. Very disappointing as I enjoyed the earlier books in this series very much.
Immigration lawyer in Kansas City. I like Character driven dramas, fantasy (monsters, magic and witches oh my!) and coming of age stories. Favs include: The Book Thief, The Game of Throne series, Harry Potter Series, Dresden Files, Nightside series, anything by Neil Gaimen, 100 Years of Solitude.
I love this series of books. I love it I love it I love it. Nothing much ever happens, but you can't help from being drawn into this lovely world. These books are like the literary version of comfort food.
Reached the end of the book and was still waiting for some mystery to develop. Needless to say, it never did.
