Splendid ending. Captain John "Black Jack" Geary is so.......dynamic. He is such a strong character and Captain Desjani is a perfect partner for him. I am continuing the Lost Fleet saga which I am sure will be outstanding too. I am so glad I decided to give this series a try as I find it difficult to get a good sci/fic space / military , something that I could understand as sometimes some books on space, military get very detailed with no touch on the characters' personalities except fighting that I end up not enjoying the book at all. But Jack Campbell's writing is brilliant and I am now a fan of his.
Whole series seemed too drawn out. Not much going on in this book. Very anticlimactic final battle. This whole series could easily be condensed into 2-3 books by strpping out the gag enducing romantic subplot or filled with better content. As for the ending; Save the romance for a different genre, it just feels out of place here. 20 minutes of an unnecessary rip off of Crocodile Dundee.
Definitely, I liked the story line and the characters. The reader did an awesome job of separating the characters throughout the story. Just about every moment of the book had me fully attentive. I really would love to know how things turned out after Black Jack and his wife Tanya Desjani get back to their home-world.
Love christian Rummel's narration and separation of characters, absolutely nothing wrong there but Jack I really like your writing but you do not have an easy voice to listen to and the explanation of the whys and how of the story would have done better if your narrator had read it instead. I am glad you stopped your narration in the last 3 books of this series because to be honest I was fast forwarding the 2 1/2 minutes you usually spoke to get to the book itself.
It all sounds plausible in the Science Fiction sort of way and I know that Jack brought in Midway as one of his memories of being in the Navy - funny thing is that my dad served in the Navy on Midway Island during the same time period as Jack Campbell. I want more, the ending was left wide open for more to come but please have Christian Rummel narrate because he is a great asset to the series and he brings the story alive.
It's been a good run. But my book 6 I'm a little worn out on the same old tired bickering and bantering between two female characters in the book and John Gary stuck in the middle. The book seems to be more about his relationship with these two women rather then and being unable fleet officer in any space battles. If I want to experience bickering between women I can go home for that
I liked the story alot. I did find the music useless along with the narration it was completely out of place. other than that I would recommend this to anybody who likes space military novella.
