It was like having Carol Burnett in my house telling these stories. I grew up watching her show. When I watched her I just knew we were friends. The book confirmed it.
Her book would have been amazing anyway, I know her style of speaking and would have read it that way. Her telling her own story and chuckling at moments reliving the story made it special.
Yes, and I did. I apologize to my family for not making dinner that night.
This is another memoir that would not have made the same impact if read by anyone but the author. I am not sure I would have liked the book as much if I had read it the traditional way! You can read about Carol doing her Tarzan yell or you can actually hear her do it. It is just not the same! I loved Carol growing up and still do. She is an American icon. I cannot express how much I loved this book!
Yes, each chapter was a new story.
Carol's narration. She made it very personal, like she was having a conversation with you.
There were many.
I would recommend this audiobook. It was a Fun Read....
It couldn't have been done by any one else. Carol put her heart in it. With all the quirks and punchlines. This was the main reason I purchase it..
Yes. it was. I didn't get to read it in one sitting, but I could have...
I would recommend. It is very enjoyable but I wouldn't necessarily call it light because of the difficulties Carol had to overcome. I found myself going to youtube to watch clips of 'The Carol Burnett' and laughing. Her stories about meeting other celebrities are very interesting to a movie fan like myself.
This compares to Anthony Bourdain's ' Kitchen Confidential'. Both books made me smile and think.
I love Carol Burnett's voice as narrator and you could never get this in a regular book.
This audio edition was better for me than the printed version as it was read by the author with all the inflections in the right place and the meaning is crystal clear. It's a double whammy, an interesting story and a really good performance. And as always with an audio book, one can listen while completing mundane tasks. My husband is deployed I'm in a foreign country, just me and the dog. Carol Burnett kept me company for two days, and what good company it was. Thank you Ms. Burnett.
The most interesting parts are tales of Carol Burnett's childhood, being raised by her Grandmother and how she broke into show business. Carol Burnett is a woman of great stamina and perserverance, talent and guts, and her general cheerfulness and willingness to see the best in others is inspirational.
I have not listened nor read any of Carol Burnett's other books, so I am unaware of how this books compares.
I listened to this book over the course of two days while doing chores and working on hobbies. I'll save this one and listen to it again.
The author is not the world's best narrator, but since Carol Burnett is reading her own memoir, and since her voice is so well known to those of us who love her, having her narrate is like sitting down with her to reminisce. Wonfderful book.
I love AUDIBLE because my drive to work and return home are a delight. Thank you for making audio books so easy to enjoy.
The best part is that Carol Burnett is still Carol Burnett. Timeless. Funny. Most importantly, REAL. A good person having lived a good life, who gets it that she's been really blessed, Carol is a delight to listen to. Unafraid to show real emotion in her telling of her own story, this is the best audible I've heard in 15 years of listening. Well done, lady!
This was such an entertaining book, and Carol's narration really makes a difference. It is fun to hear her describe some of her old skits since I can remember seeing them when they were originally aired. You feel like you are reminiscing with an old friend. A superb book!
This book is definitely top tier of the books I've listened to, and it is Carol's own personal touch that makes it so worthwhile.
Carol, of course, it is her autobiography.
It was real, it was from her heart.
Yes, I laughed out loud and I teared up. It was a terrific insight into Carol, the person.
