"One to buy....Brilliant"
Hooked from the start didn't want this to end. Will miss the characters especially Minnie. I've laughed out loud also had a tear or two.
What do I listen to now???
"Beautiful narration & story"
The characters came to life with the superb narration and thought provoking storyline. The social history of 1960's deep south kept me listening.
"A fantastic listen"
Easy 5-star rating for this one. Enjoyed this audiobook more than the film for certain. I wish more audiobooks had this level of production value, with multiple narrators.
"Best book i have read (or heard) in years!"
A whole range of emotions fills this book. I am so sorry to be on the last chapter but I have enjoyed every single word of this clever and insightful book
I really became absorbed in all of the characters of this story and I was disappointed when it was finished. A great book.
"My first audio"
I downloaded this book in an attempt to make the chore of ironing more palatable and loved it so much I was almost tempted to go round my neighbours and ask if they needed any laundry done!
The readers where fantastic and really brought this story alive. I have 4 teenage sons who would not normally be into this kind of thing, but they were getting snatches of the story as they passed me by and by the end they were all openly sitting in the room listening to it with me - I really can't say any more than that to recommend this book.
I am now thoroughly hooked on Kathryn Stockett and audio books. And as an added bonus I'm even up to date with my laundry.
"Beautifully narrated, I could not stop listening!"
The three (main) narrators of this audiobook are simply marvelous. Each voice matches the character's personality perfecty, and really helped bring the story to life. I could not stop listening to it and finished it in record time. I would recommend this (and I have) to all my friends!
"Well worth downloading"
A well-written and well-narrated book dealing with a sensitive subject. Although I found it a little slow-paced, the story held my interest throughout and it is well worth listening to.
"Very sorry to see the characters go"
This was my first audio book and I listened to it at every opportunity. I loved (and loved to hate) some of the characters, the observation to character detail is something I rarely find and I treasure an author who achieves this in the simple way Kathryn Stockett has. The narration was very good, not imposing at all, easy and comfortable to listen to. I really missed listening to this when I had finished and am eager to find a book that can grip me in the gentle way this one has. Racial segregation could be a dark topic to take on, but although I was left to think about the alternative day-to-day African American perspective I didn't feel it was heavy or dwelled on anything for too long. Would (and have been) recommend it to everybody; I hope you get as much out of this as I have.
"Perfect flavour of the Southern States in the 50s"
Fabulous book, wonderfully read by all the narrators. You really get to love the characters and feel thier sorrows and joys.
