While I enjoyed this and will read the rest of the series, I wasn't wowed and didn't find anything I haven't read before. A pleasant diversion.
This is a very good book. Some of the writing in it gets a little bit convoluted when being read back, they need to learn to add some pauses and breaks to their sentences. But overall a good story, so now I'm not moving onto the next book in the series.
Live on edge of National Forest with lake, birds & wild animals. No more perfect place to indulge life-long love of reading.
This is the first Hobb book that I have listened to or read. It certainly won't be the last. What a find!
Hobb creates a well constructed world, believable, yet not common. The story easily held my interest throughout. I won't summarize the story line, others have done that quite well. Suffice it to say that this is a very well done coming of age story about a young boy who has a lot to discover about himself. I knew I liked the book and was really looking forward to reading the rest of the series as soon as I finished listening. What I did not anticipate was that I was still thinking about the book and the characters for several days after I finished it. The only reason I'm not listening to the 2nd book in the series right now is that I don't want to gobble them up too quickly. These deserve to be savored.
The narrator was good for the most part hard to hear at certain points like he was backing away from the mic.. Story started out slow but by the end was thoroughly enjoyable. Will be reading the next installment!!
This was a very poorly wrtten work. I realize it was intened to function like a journal, but the author glossed over far too much. A lot of it read like snippets of a travelogue. In addition, the main character was unrealistically blind to the machinations around him. I can't understand the good reviews. The only upside was that the narrator was good. That said this was a waste of time and money.
Wonderful narrator! Fascinating story. Great plot and characters. Vivid images. Loved the love of animals and the superb expressions of loneliness of the young Fitz.
Can't wait to hear more!
