I am an infomaniac...seeking insight, clarity & understanding...
Elizabeth Moon has been one of my favorites since i was a younglings. This adventure began three wonderful books ago...and I'm so glad she's returned to this universe...
I'm a Sci Fi buff but took a chance pin this series as i love Moon's other works so much. this id's a deeply immersive experience and there it's a lot to still write about; it it's not fluff. I'm thoroughly enjoying this next group of books by really feel you must begin three books ago too truly appreciate Pak's universe.. It has been one of the most gratifying reads ever... and i still have several more to go! Thank you, ms. 🌛!
As others have said, it was hard to hear this new narrator. She did not pronounce many things in the same manner that has been done for 5 books now. Her cadence was a bit repetitive and hard to listen to after a while, but if you love the series as I do, it is still worth it.
I really enjoyed this entire series. I am listening to it a second time. The only distraction is some inconsistency between narrators of the books on pronouncing place names. Otherwise a good series to listen to as you contemplate major changes.
Have read all paks books at least 20 times....enjoy characters and each progressive growth of character....read my first science fiction at fourth grade...am now 73.... But moon is one of my favorite writers
Enjoyable & Interesting developments due to the discovery of who Kieri really is, and how he was surrounded with people who also have wonderful things in store for them due the plans of the Gods.Great development of likable and diversely formidable charters on the side of good.Hard to put it down because you want to see how things are going to turn out. Being a Lord of the Rings devotee, I can see why this has been compared to it.This is actually the first Paladin Book I've read, and think she's doing a great job bringing this to us.
Dorrin and the picture of the First Duke, and later her and Poks in the Vault...The plans and actions of her Wicked Family can disrupt anything anywhere... Excellent Hook.
She's the voice of this series and does a good job.I hope the next book and that substitute will not take away from my enjoyment.
70+, been reading SF since 1953. Vision is going so have switched to Audible.
Started a little slow but then pace picked up and was very enjoyable. Glad to see series is available and I don't have to wait any time at all for the next book.
Somewhat like the first Paksenarrion book, it's hard to tell just where this one is going. We have two or three characters' stories to follow. Eventually the focus does seem to fall more on one of them, but I'm not sure even Moon knew which it would be, at first.
She's not my favorite narrator, but she has improved over the course of these novels and I'm accustomed to her style.
It would make a great movie--the cuts between locations and characters would work quite well.
In the end, I enjoyed listening to this book and plan to continue with the series.
Eclectic is a verb
Bias note: I a huge fan of The Deed of Paksenarrion, so I'm pre-disposed to love this series, which I do. Her writing and attention to detail, thinking through the various issues as world events collide around her characters is simply so well done. This is a solid production, and I'll certainly get the next books in the series.
I was disappointed in this new series - somehow Moon missed capturing the characters - in the first series I cared about their fate, not so much in this one!
?Must read earlier books first?
Assumend prior knowledge of plot, characters, etc.
Frustration early on....
