I had listened to the first of the werewolf series by Molly Harper previously, and was unimpressed. I thought that this was a different author, and had been dismayed to learn that they were both Molly Harper books, with the same narrator. However, when I started listening, I found it hard to put down! Although this main character is also sulky and whiny, it fits her better, and plays into the plot in a way that it did not in the other series. The plot carried me on from beginning to end, with surprises at every turn. A thoroughly enjoyable listen.
The surprise in the beginning about how the main character becomes a vampire is very funny and original.
Although I personally think the narrator's voice is nasal, that is not something I think she can improve upon. Her voice was a good choice for the part.
This book was hilarious for a vampire novel, and that is something that many try for, and at which few succeed.
I would definitely recommend this book for a light, fun read; this book would make a great vacation novel.
Molly Harper writes a great Intro to being a Vampire from the viewpoint of one conservative small town girl. Amanda Ronconi does a humorous job of giving a southern voice to the girl and the rest of the crowd in the book. The plot is not new but it has a fair number of twists and turns. It follows one of Molly's other books of an overbearing mother who wants to control everything and a dysfunctional sister. Overall the mix of characters and their influence on the new vampire provides plenty of reason to come up with reasons for walking around with my earplugs in while listening to the audiobook - regardless of where I am.
Yes - just as good.
I LOVE Audible
I enjoyed this book and it's narration. It is more of a performance than 'a reading', I felt like I got to know the character through the voice. I hope Amanda Ronconi, reads the next books in the series.
I use reviews by others quite often to help me to decide to read a book and if there are others out there that do the same, Im writing this review so that I can tell how much fun I had reading this series. It quirky, funny, and I felt I wanted to know how all the characters came out. I enjoyed them all.
I am a Molly Harper fan and very happy to read any of her work.
Amanda Ronconi compliments this series very well and I also follow her work in Rachel Vincent's, My Soul series too. She is a pleasure to listen to with great delivery and inflection.
Loved this book, the first in a series of vampire books. Molly Harper has become a favorite author of mine with her humorous style of writing and engaging characters.
Jane Jameson, a young librarian in a small town, is turned into a vampire following a freak shooting accident. Vampire Gabriel Nightingale finds her and turns her to save her life. The story follows Jane as she learns to deal with her new "life" and the quirky bunch of new friends she makes as a vampire.
Amanda Ronconi is perfect as the narrator. She has just the right voice for the characters and really enhanced my enjoyment of the book. I'm listening to the 3rd book in the series now and have thoroughly enjoyed them all. Highly recommend if you like campy paranormal stories. I also recommend Molly Harper's two "Naked Werewolf" books.
This book was refreshingly upbeat and funny. I enjoyed it so much. It's on my top 5 book list.
So many fantasy books are all about tough, supernatural, fem fatale characters. The lead character in this book finds her new life bewildering. As she struggles to grow into her new life the reader gets to go along for the ride. It's a fun ride!
I think she really captured Jane's voice. She got the humor and sarcasm just right.
This is a laugh out loud funny book. I was in a super market listening to this book and I was laughing so much I has to shut it off.
This is a great book if you are feeling blue or just need a lift. I listened to it again a few weeks after the first time and found things I missed.
Couldnt listen to more then 10 minutes of that voice... totally ruined the story for me.
The voice over acted all sarcastic and it really ruined the story.
Enter a new "vampire" romance book. Molly Harper's characters are sassy and magnets for trouble, so Jane Jameson is all you would expect. Amanda Ronconi's narration captures the "smart a--" tone of the characters perfectly, so that you can almost visualize them, no matter how impossible the actual situations might be. This book is fun!!
funny, fast, sassy
The awakening scene when she survives being shot by being turned and then vamps out on her best friend who didn't know quite how to respond.
Her characterizations made listening a joy
It definitely is very entertaining and would listen to in one sitting.
Good fun. Like the How to _ _ _ a Naked Werewolf better though.
No. Would recommend the werewolf series first.
