"We could not live at all if there where not outside of the air of this world yet another air to breathe..." -- Hermann Hesse
The narration is flawless. NOT too fast... NOT mumbled...excellent modulation and everything... The audio quality is excellent. The writing is fascinating. It is not a novel which you try to "follow" through historical facts. You just accept it as true. It will captivate you.
I highly recommend this book. If you love history, historical fiction, and the supernatural you will love this marriage of historical legend and supernatural. Grahame-Smith introduces a very realistic and believable Lincoln. He makes you feel you have truly gotten to know the man, as a real person. And the vampire element is woven in so skillfully that it takes nothing away from Lincoln as a real person.
Absolutely Abe! Strong, convicted, honorable, and masculine.
Henry! He was smooth, wise, handsome, and conflicted. Wonderfully done!
Definitely! You will stay up late listening to this one. It's riveting for sure!
This story and performance are amazing and will bring the person of Lincoln to life in a very unusual and pleasant way!
The concept is awesome but the story is just ok. The writer doesn't hold my interest with his words. I bet the movie will be kickin though. 3.1 stars
....Of course I have always had a thing for him. He is my favorite president and I used to read everything I could about him when I was younger. This book was so much fun.....the way Seth Grahame-Smith uses actual history and mythical vampires to mesh them into something that is very believable. Abraham Lincoln was an amazing human being.....kind-hearted yet strong.......he was so intelligent and really knew what he wanted out of life. His life is full of tragedy and heartbreak, but I think that is what made him such a fascinating and wonderful person. If you love history and you love vampires.....I say take the time to read this book.......you won't be disappointed!
A better narrator. Performance was terrible (accents bad, sounded young and inexperienced). Long breaks with no speaking, or bad music.
Story was ok. Disjointed, reaching. Incorporating the vampire stuff was not seamlessly done -- like trying to shoehorn a big left foot into a small right shoe.
No less than 30 min into the book I was hooked. Everything you know about history is tweaked and built upon just enough to make this book believable and compelling. Going in you knew you would root for Abraham, but you are in no way ready to realize how much you would be rooting for him every step of the way. This book takes the truth, and fills in the small gaps with the plot line. It all makes sense, and is in no way feels forced. I got chills in places thinking how true this sounds, and if I believed that Vampires existed I would never sleep again.
This story was fun from the beginning. Very entertaining and fast moving book. I highly recommend this novel. Grahame-Smith does a great job intertwining his novel through our President's life and the history of our country.
Yes, it balances history with fiction. I only got this because someone else said it was good, but once I read it, it quickly became a favorite!
I don't think there are many books you can compare this to. Its very original, and unlike much out there.
I flip-flop between business and fiction books to keep me grounded in reality while still keeping my childhood love of fantasy firmly intact.
This was a very clever melding of real journal entries and fiction! It made me want to read his first book, "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies."
Big City AZ Native living in small town Iowa. Audible is great for relaxing & healing my mind and body, going places we could never imagine
Unique, rivoting, mindblowing.
The factual research of Abraham Lincoln and blending of vampires lurking all around us through his life to ours.
When Lincoln realized the reason for slavery, to feed the vampire race.
It would be hands down Lincoln, liked him before; just drop in Abe bring your friend you are both welcome anytime.
Scott Hoist was wonderful narrator!! Looking forward to the movie and more of Seth Grahame-Smith's work.
