I enjoy reading series and very rarely read stand alone series. I mostly read romance and sci-fi & fantasy.
This is one of those series that you have to take a minute and think about. Do you really want to invest time, energy, and money/credits into. It took me along time to get the second book at the first one. I thought after reading the first on that it wasn't my kind of series. It seemed too unreal (Not as if vampires are real and all), but I was on the fence about this series.
I had to go back and reread the book. It was a good thing. I had missed some details that helped me understand the story more. Now I am addicted to the series and I am in a rush to get them all and devour them.
In this series you see the age old battle of good vs evil. And a battle to save, well the world what else? It is a fun and entertaining book, and the series is full of studly and muscle bound warriors who want to find their other half and protect her. Oh and save the world from rough vampires of course.
It is a good series and the narrator does a wonderful job with the story. She really makes the words come alive for you. It is in my top ten best series list, and one that I plan on rereading again and again.
Not narrated by Hillary Huber. Unfortunately, she talks very slow and overall the tone of her voice is boring, leaving no excitement to the text of the book.
Rapture, J.R. Ward. I'm a huge fan of J.R. Ward, and loved Jim Frangione who narrated the BDB series. I'm looking forward to the Angel series.
The narrator could have found more emotion in her voice. She could have narrated the text in a more passionate tone rather than just monotone bore.
I am still trying to get through the book, so I'm not sure yet. i am truthfully considering reading the book rather than listening in hopes of getting a better picture of the book.
If i try another one, i will have to read the actual book. The narrator is so boring and lifeless. I am struggling to get through this obvious rip off of J. R. Ward's BDB. The characters are flat, the narrator is boring like she is just reading to herself on her back porch. There is not enough dialogue and what is said is so forgetable. If the author wanted to rob BDB she should have ripped off some writing talent as well.
I would recommend the book in print, not the audiobook. The narrator's voice grates on my ears.
This series needs a strong male voice who can also do female characters.
Who cares. They are so two dimensional it doesn't matter.
I will give the second book a try before i totally trash this series. Hopefully, reading the book myself will offer some saving grace for this literary train wreck so far.
Sorry, but I just don't like Hilary Huber's narration style. I think I would like the book better if someone else were performing it.
Overall, I enjoyed the story. The only things that hung me up was the whole Vampires are aliens bit. I got over that pretty quickly. The other thing was the marks that the mates have. Correct e if I'm wrong, but the human race isn't magical on it's own and wouldn't have any vamps if, according to story cannon, they hadn't arrived and started taking wives. I just find the idea that human women who could mate to the vamps would have a mark saying they could be possible mates. It doesn't make any sense to me, unless they have magic? But we aren't lead to that possibility at all because their abilities are explained away as aliens who crash landed.
All in all, I'll probably suspend belief and listen to more. They're fairly well written, even if the sex is raunchy.
The mystery involved with the Rogues. The Alien backstory.
This is the first book I listened to by her.
Like many others on this review, I have listened to the complete Black Dagger Brotherhood series. When I read other reviews, I was under the impression that the Midnight Series was good, but didn't live up to BDB. I was genuinely surprised by how much I have fallen in love with this series! There are a lot of similarities between the 2 series, but they are also VERY different and this one shouldn't be ignored if you liked Black Dagger Brotherhood. I have had moments where I was laughing and crying while listening and it is all because of Lara Adrian's writing. She gets her reader into the story and carries you along so you feel what her characters are feeling.
Each of these stories are worth every penny! I am currently on book 5 and I can't wait to get through the rest!
This was a typical cheesy romance book, which I enjoy as long as it's well-written and the romance is believable, but I didn't find this to be well-written or well-plotted. Plus I HATED the mythology--it is not typical vampires, but a weird sci-fi twist on vampires that I didn't enjoy. I want to read about vampires, not aliens. Yuk.
Love the entire series of three books. Fantastic to listen to. I suggest starting at the first one because you will want to take another bite out of this brilliant author. ;) The narrator, Hillary Huber, is fantastic. You won't regret buying!
Once I started I could NOT hit pause. This was a great story. The NARRATOR GETS BIG props and HIGH 5's she totally made this a series that I will continue to buy and listen to AS LONG as SHE remains the narrator.
Lucan and Gabby opposites but lots of chemistry from the very beggining. I am just sorry I had not heard of Lara Adrians stories before. As they say "Better late than never". Ready for part 2! Happy listening, be ready to get sucked in.
The series is similar to the Black Dagger Brotherhood but not as intense. Adrian has kept a good balance between fantasy and romance in these books which, in my opinion, makes them more engaging then the BDB series. Enough romance to keep me caring about Lucan and Gabrielle's story, but enough action to keep their story interesting.
