Hi, I am a voracious reader with a wide range of tastes.
Well if you like soft porn and a loose predictable plot then you will love this book. Bad character development. The only interesting thing was the take on the vampire origin. I would have stopped listening in the middle of book but I paid cash for this.
Really? I purchased this book because of the other reviews. Now, I couldn't help but compare this audio and narration to the Jeanne Frost novels. The narrator on this book, Hillary Huber has a low, melodic voice that soon became monotonous. All her sentences begin to sound the same. I believe if the narrator had put more passion and emotion into the characters rather than settling for those sexy, vamp voices throughout the book, the audio presentation would have sounded so much better.
The context of the Midnight breed series is fantastic but the narrator leaves much to be desired. Her voice is so flat and uninteresting it takes away from the storyline.
I am absolutely hooked on this series from this first book. Terrific plot and premise, and I love Lucan! Hillary Huber is excellent as the narrator---her wonderful throaty rendition is perfect for sultry females and sexy males especially. Sometimes if a female narrator has too high of a voice, when she plays the male roles it sounds silly. But Hillary does a terrific job with all the voices.
I'm already on the second book.
I just started listening to this book and I really like it. But I do not like the narrator's voice (sorry who ever you are) she makes it sound fake shall I say.
Why Did I Waste a Credit On This? Not my cup of tea. I did not even finish this. The characters were cheesy and the writing style was poor. Maybe I am just getting sick of the whole vampire thing.....
The story itself probably isn't all that bad, honestly. But it's so hard to focus on it with the bad acting job. I am one of those people who tend to prefer giving others a chance, but this was too much for me. The reader continues on in a terrible monotone, gives everyone a valley girl accent and even goes so far as to give one of the MALE characters a valley girl accent. Ugh. This is my first ever audible, and to be honest, I'm not going to get any more. Audio books are entirely too expensive for this type of terrible acting. At these prices, they really could have hired a decent narrator. I could read this better with a head cold.
I was hoping this book would be good after reading all the good reviews, but its simply horrible and terrible narrator. Slow and boring waste of credit and my time! Nothing like J.R Ward, not even close a cheap imitation... Maybe if the speaker would be better this book would get two stars and not just one!
In my humble opinion, this particular book is a cross between Twilight and J.R. Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood series. It's not that it's BAD, as far as books go. It's just nothing special. I almost wish I could go back in time and NOT choose this book. But if you're looking for something with some predictable vampire violence and the standard romance novel combined, you'd probably enjoy this book.
but not nearly as good. I found I wasn't as drawn in by the storyline or the characters in this series as I was in the JR Ward series. It was a little boring and repetitive at times. I probably won't download any more of this series.
