I'm hooked. The narration of this book is outstanding and the scope of its story is absolutely engaging left me wanting more. I really hope Kiss of Crimson, Midnight Awakening as well as the other books of this series are available soon on audible.
I've always been a avid reader so now I'm a avid listener. I prefer the paranormal genre but I do like to switch things up. It's boring if you don't have variety. Of course I do love the romance and the hotter the better. Also, you can't beat a good thriller filled with suspense and a ending you can't even guess at until the very end.
I love audio much better.
I liked the new twist on vampires and how they came into existence. I read this years ago and I enjoyed this series.
If you like vampire stories then I think you would like this. Keep in mind this is the first book of a series. In my opinion it's not as good as the JR Wards Brotherhood series, but it does remind me of that series.
The first Midnight Breed book: it's very good. Lucan is sexy. Gabrielle is also great. This series is often compared to BDB. However, if you keep reading the series, you won't regret it. You'll also realize the series is nothing like BDB.
Im now starting the 5th book in this series. And wow!! I'm so glad I listened to all the hype. It's all true. By book 4, I went ahead and downloaded the rest of the series.
You won't regret it!!
(p.s. the narrator is good I the first few books, but she really gets better as the series continues.)
From the begin to the end you will find that you don't want it to end. Wonderful story and I hope to hear more by this author.
Like the romance, but love the action involved to get there!
The reviews on this series both intrigued me and made me want to run. I got the whole series a few months ago on a super duper sale and have been waiting for the right mind set to listen to it.
If you are looking for Black Dagger Brotherhood I am happy to say this isn't the right book for you. I was terrified that I would hate the series because everyone compared it to BDB, but hello people, either you didn't read the actual words and only looked at the blurb, or you are just plain loco.
Yes, this story is about an elite group of vampire warriors....and that is where the similarities end! These vampires are descendants of….aliens…not created by a mythical being. The women they mate with are….HUMAN…not other vampires. They are fighting….other vampires…not a weird white haired foe that smells. You get my point….people will always draw parallels just because of the elite group of vampire warriors, but that is like saying every book with a cowboy on a ranch is a rip off of the original. So, once and for all, NOT like BDB books! Which was my biggest concern when I read the reviews.
Now, onto the good stuff, the actual review. It was a good start to what is obviously a series, a lot of groundwork was laid about the world and not too much about the people, I expect the second book to flow better. So, you have the naïve girl who doesn’t know about the world of vampires until she accidently sees a vampire mauling, so she does what any good girl would do, she goes to the police, but they can’t find any sign that such an attack happened, and don’t believe it is possible that this chick saw what she says she saw…so they pat her on the head, suggest she takes a nap, eats some food and gets some help…but she knows what she saw, and other’s find out about her…people she REALLY didn’t want to catch the attention of! Thankfully there is a “good” vampire…or at least he tries to be good, and when he sees the naïve girl entering his world he decides to protect her…and while he is there why not have a taste from a willing partner…that was his plan until he discovers she is no ordinary human, she is of a distinct lineage that would actually allow her to mate with a vampire…this changes everything! And the story gets dramatic from there!
All in all I liked the book, it had some steamy scenes, good character development, but I didn’t love it. Maybe after book 2 I’ll be singing a different tune, I’ll keep you posted!
I love Audible! Being a full time wife, mother, and career leaves no time to actually read. Audio books give me my fix anytime and anywhere.
I would only recommend this to a friend whom LOVES paranormal romance and suspense but has already completely finished J.R. Ward's Black Dagger Brother Hood series and Kresley Cole's Immortals After Dark series. This is more to hold you off until you find something better. Like eating a hershey's bar when really you want chocolate cake.
Not At All...I feel those who aren't used to this genre the new take on Vampire origins is intriguing and can make one interested to find even more untraditional outlooks on the legend of a creature that is as old as the character's age.
Hmmm...hard to say...I wasn't completely disappointed by her. I liked her variations on different accents, she did that very well, but I wish the main male character hadn't sounded so angry all the time...he sounded pissed off even when he wasn't supposed to be.
I guess so...I go through stages with my audio books. When picking this novel I hadn't had enough of paranormal romance, but had finished what is available on Audible in the other series I'm tangled up in. Kiss of Midnight did the job, but I am not interested enough to take on this series, just moved on to different genre's now.
This novel wasn't bad but it wasn't great. If you are interested in taking on a paranormal romance series I suggest the fore-mentioned or the Sookie Stackhouse novels, werewolf series by Patricia Briggs, or Blood Ties series by Jennifer Armintrout. Now those are series you can "sink" your teeth into!
I'm an avid reader, and a newly avid listener. I work alot of hours and books are my escape, whether on paper or audio!!
I like to listen to audiobooks while I'm doing other things. Considering that I only spent $4.95 on this title, I can't claim complete disappointment. That being said, I'm sure there was another $4.95 title out there I would've enjoyed more.
Probably not. I don't know too many friends that would enjoy this type of story.
I felt like the narrator's performance fell flat throughout the story. Sometimes, I expected her to convery a little more emotion from the main character, and was left feeling like she was bored.
While the hot sex is great, I think it would have been nice for the characters to develop some emotional attachment before going all in.
For all of the vampire stories out there I really appreciate the twist that Lara Adrian puts into her story by actually having the vampires be aliens. Clever! She also finds a clever way to make the ladies suitable for vampires without making them vampires as well. Don't get me wrong, it's EXTREMELY convenient, especially since most women (I assume) don't like the idea of drinking blood from people/ potentially being savage enough to kill someone while drinking their blood, but whatever. It's better than Bella having the mysteriously wonderful ability to not want to kill everyone when she's a new-born vampire. At least it's all breedmates in this series, and it's a thing for all of them.
Definitely reminds me of the other "BIG" paranormal romances series' like Immortals After Dark or Psy-Changeling series, but not as good.
I'm stuck with her for this series but I am not impressed AT ALL. She does ok in this book but as you go along (I've now read almost the entire series) she becomes more and more awful. Like, she only had enough talent for a few books, but with 11 and counting in the series, it's beyond her skills as a narrator.
It made me want to download the next installment, so I imagine that's Mission Accomplished as far as anyone should be concerned.
This is a general comment on the ENTIRE series for anyone who is considering the time/ money investment in reading them. I came around to this series after I finished the Immortals After Dark and the Psy-Changeling series'. If I had read these first, maybe I would be more impressed. However, having read the others first, I can tell you these are not nearly as good as either of those. If I rated those as an A, this series is easily a B. It feels like much of the plot is dependent upon characters making completely irrational decisions, purposely avoiding plotholes the size of Texas and in general, lack the sophistication that you get from other paranormal romance authors. Like, I shouldn't be halfway through the book wondering how long it's going to take the author to get around to the big "Duh Duh Duh" moment that has been spelled out in alphabet blocks since about Chapter 2. I realize I'm a smart cookie, but I shouldn't be able to assume the entire plot of the story only 2 hours into the novel. THAT BEING SAID, I'm a sucker for a romance, so here's what I can say to the positive: In terms of the romances that are developed, they are decent enough that I can buy into them, and the sex scenes are fairly hot. The world created is fun enough and despite my griping, I still gobbled them up like candy. Essentially, this series is like Junk Food. It's not the best tasting, and not the healthiest, but it's a craving that's hard to ignore. And when I'm done and it's sitting in my belly, making me feel gross, I'll be inspired to go out and find something of higher quality....until the cravings hit again!
