For whatever reason, most gay fiction I've tried seems to be poorly written and even more poorly edited so I was skeptical when I bought a copy. I was pleasantly surprised that this book was both very well written and the story line pulled me in and held my interest during a 5 hour driving trip. I will definitely buy more books from this author. Highly recommended.

Andrew Grey's LOVE MEANS NO SHAME was a story that really suffered for the narration. I was incredibly excited to find audible.com listing some gay fiction audiobooks, and I nabbed it with one of my monthly credits, and started listening to it the next day.

Now, here's thing: I quite liked the story. I thought it was sweet, and heartwarming, and of a very rare character in that there was no massive horrible event that the characters had to get past, but rather a series of tests that challenged their capacities to love. It was a gentle story. And the reader's narration nearly made me give up on more than one occasion.

One of the two characters, Elijah, is an Amish fellow, about nineteen or twenty, and in what I assume is an attempt to make his innocence a part of his voice, the narrator chose to give him a slightly breathy voice, which instead of sounding innocent sounded... well... fifteen years old. Or maybe twelve.

Given that the main character romances (and is romanced in turn by) Elijah, you can imagine the overall effect. It comes off... well, creepy. Add to that that all the female characters were given an even breathier, simpering voice, and there were passages where I was wincing while I listened. Women have voices that are stronger than the way they were read, and the indignant semi-villainess lines were robbed of all power by the way they were delivered aloud.

I want to repeat: I liked the story. Andrew Grey's tale was really enjoyable in and of itself, and if you're a fan of the farm-and-ranch setting, this little gay love story would definitely be welcome in your collection. I'm glad I got the story. But the reader nearly made me stop, and I'd suggest you grab the physical copy of the book (or e-book) instead.

The book itself, I'd give four stars as a gentle, loving tale. The narration deserves perhaps two stars, unfortunately, which leaves my ranking at three.

I am a sucker (no pun intended) for sappy love stories and this is one that you can get emotional about. Listened to it 3 times so far in almost two years!

I've never read the print version, so I cannot give an accurate comparison. However, the audio version was superb. My only criticism would be of the narrator. He did an excellent job with the two main characters, and a great job overall, but several of the secondary characters really seemed to blend together.

Geoff; while I haven't shared his sexual exploits, I felt a very deep connection to him because of the qualities he cherished within Eli. I was able to connect with him on a level that made me feel better about myself and more secure in my way of viewing the world.

I think the title suits the work quite well and would not change it.

I have already downloaded another of Andrew Grey's books: Love Means...No Fear; I'm really looking forward to listening to this work and anything else I can get my hands on by Grey.

I though itwas very orginal, a great plot. For me it was weak, and the people in the story did not have a strong presents in the book. I would say not bad book to listen to. It made me smile the hole time I listen to it.

Having listened to the whole series of Love Means... I found I actually started part way through, this being the first on my list. I found it moving and wanted to know what would happen next to people that showed they cared about others more than themselves, a rear find in this day and age. All in all close to the top of my list.

I found I loved the whole series for different reasons in each story.

I wouldn't change the performance though I prefer Sean's voice. I still enjoyed the hours of listening.

I like the title. If you really love someone there is no shame. No matter who you love, love is love. We either love and live or just survive the world alone.

A running theme of the "Love means..." series seems to be the jaded, worldly gay man re-discovering love by meeting an innocent, inexperienced seemingly straight and often virgin young man. What could play into this better than an Amish kid on his first outing from his community? Although a bit predictable, it's a very sweet story. It's unfortunate that these stories so often demonize gay life in the cities, relying on the introduction of 'outsiders' for the central character to find any happiness.

Through no fault of his own the narrator often sounds silly having to cover not only all of the adult men's voices but also those of women and children. These books would be better served with at least a female voice to cover those characters.

the 2 title characters blended love with hot lovemaking... thrilling story I REALLY enjoyed this book, but listen to Love Means.....Courage as that is part one of this story. but either is good on its own.
