I was searching and searching to find a good fantasy book, along the lines of Cinder by Marissa Meyer, or Clockwork Prince by Cassandra Clare. I was lured into this purchase upon seeing the 4 star rating and numerous rave reviews. Disappointment would be an understatement. Nowadays it seems that "young adult fiction" is just another phrase for a big helping of literary crap. It seems like finding a decent fantasy book is as difficult as winning the lottery.
I loved this book. 17 hours long and i listened to it in one day. Couldn't stop listening. The reader is excellent and the story even better. I can't see how anyone could not love this book. It is unlike any other book i have ever read. Thanks for writing it and i hope for more.
I'm trying to wean myself and learn to function without earbuds for more than ten minutes at a time. It hasn't been easy. I lose balance...
after all, it wasn't hateful. But there's better out there with more solid storylines. Production wise they've gone all out on this though, songs and sfx. But i'd rather have a better characterization or more in depth relationships...it seemed like not a lot happened for such a long audiobook. and i never really began to care for them so much. on a good note, it was nice to have the boy's point of view for a change in a non-stereotypical way...but overall, b minus on the easy grading curve.
I suppose I am not a good source for a review. I wanted to read this book because the movie was coming out. But this was just to young for my taste even though I have read several YA books I didn't care for this one. Sorry no help here.
Don't miss the Bino Phillips series by AW Gray. They are largely unknown, but as good as any ive read!
I couldn't stand the sound effects and music. It takes away from the book.
Silver Linings Playbook
He's mediocre, but the production was just bad.
Bad plot added music...and I think at the beginning there was something wrong with the recording?! Wants to be twilight but the story just isn't involved enough and neither are the characters. Lets hope the movie does a better job...but wait isn't it supposed to be the other way round?
The background music, the song
Realistic teenager in high school background. Good pacing. Kept up interest with some mystery as to what was happening. Love story is sweet.
Ethan and Lena.
Yes. there were many such moments. The way Lena caused things in nature to happen by her moods and emotions....and Ethan understood her and stood by her, tried to protect her. Their relationship grew to be very sweet and caring.
I am a Father of 4 children that are always getting different books on here. I have the great job of reading the actual book or listening to the book before hand to make sure its appropriate. First of all, I did not have great expectations for this book, BUT, WOW!!! If you are a boy and you are in Jr High/High School...READ THIS BOOK!!! This is a love story where two people meet and it might be love at first sight but let me tell you, it is not easy. I could easily identify with the main characters anxiety, fear, just the constant thought of wondering if the person you have so much feelings for is thinking the same thing as you are. The authors do a wonderful job in creating an atmosphere that put me back in high school with all the tremendous character development. I HAD to get all three books and find out if this love story was going to work out. TRUST ME...this is like nothing you have read before. Don't give up, just read or listen on and you will love this book. A real love story with supernatural elements in it. I cant say enough about this book. GET IT and you can thank me later.
Say something about yourself!
I wouldn't say I "loved" the novel, but it was pretty good. I enjoy stories with supernatural themes and this one has a very sweet story of first love intertwined.

I respect the authors and, overall, enjoyed the story. As you'll see below, I believe that the gave short shrift to their characters, a bit one-sided and their setting, a very clichéd South. I believe they will do better with their characters and won't portray another region quite so poorly. Indeed, it is due to that respect for both Authors I’m so hard on the setting and the characters. I believe there can be so much more here with a bit more nuance. In fact, I anticipate reading Beautiful Darkness and look forward to other work they produce together or individually. I simply hope they let the mess of this world seep through a little bit.
Their twist on the magic theme so prevalent in YA is refreshing as is the ending which brings to the fore the fact that right choices can still have difficult consequences
It is read well by Kevin T Collins; his inflections and tone is quite good. His southern accent isn't overdone, which is all too often the case. What makes the audible version great is the eerily performed "16 Moons" song by Michele McGonigle. I can't image a more perfectly fitting performance.
I switched between the Kindle edition and the Audible version, made a bit more difficult due to Audible still needing to enable Whispersync for Voice on the Windows Phone app. Yet another plug to the development team.
