Supernatural, teenagers, families
I liked Amma, with her love for the young man she had raised since infancy . I enjoyed the familiar stories about life in a small town in the south.
Yes, I would recommend this to anyone who loved the Twilight series. The performance is especially good.
The grave where the ghost sat on the tomb stone
Great job on narrating
Two thumbs up
I saw the movie first, then listened to the book. Im so glad I did it in this order. The movie did not do the book justice. There was so much going on in the book that I will listen again when I finish the series to find what I missed.
Great book! Although there are many supernatural books out there, this one really stands out. Each member of a family of casters has their fate decided for them on their 16th birthday. This story is about a caster coming of age and the fears she faces not knowing whether or not she will be chosen for light or dark magic. Set in the south, this telling doesn't just use the south as a location , but incorporates southern life into the story. The book is masterfully read by Kevin Collins, who uses just the right amount of southern drawl without overdoing it. Can't wait to read book 2 Beautiful Darkness.
Similar to the Twilight series in that it is a coming of age story for a young girl who is surrounded by the supernatural
With some readers the voices tend to be similar, not this reader. Kevin T. Collins breathes life into each character giving each one a voice of their own.
Beautiful Creatures cast a spell over you.
Will definitely be reading the entire series
Even though the story is predictable, the reader gets the southern accent so good it makes you feel like your there. By the end of the story you actually begin to care for the characters, which makes you want to read the next one.
I enjoyed all of the various characters and how their lives intertwined. There were so many different personality traits. I am from the south and loved hearing about the southern traditions and southern way of life. The sound effects of rain and storms also add to the ambiance of the book.
The moment they enter the Castor library is very suspenseful and detailed. It sounded fascinating for the characters to be there and very real to the reader.
The scenes when Ethan goes into his "dreams" take too long on audible. I thought there was something wrong with my download at first.
I loved the book and have already downloaded the whole series. You end up rooting for the casters
You think of them as normal people but they are not
While iI enjoyed this first book in the series, I'm becoming bored with the paranormal genre. They all seem the same. Boy meets Girl, one of them "has a secret life",they fight to be together, etc, etc.
Marian the Librarian was such a surprise character. Macon Ravenwood came across as a cartoon character.
The narrator did a good job, but with most narrators, they just don't hit the opposite sex spot-on.
If you liked Twilight . . .
I love the freedom of Audible books. I love to read and with Audible I can "read" in the car or waiting to pick up the Grands from school, even grocery shopping!
My problem is with Audible.com. When you purchase the service you have to download it to your computer hard drive and then move it to the Kendell. That is you want to do audio book on a long drive like we did.Their service should be like the one Amazon has for the book. You purchase it, and it downloads straight to the tablet. None of that middle monkey crap.PCs will become obsolete in the home as Tablets take over. TV Flat screens too,....you will just do huge tablet interactives that also work the house (apple does this now but still as multiple devices, I think it willl go single device on a large panel and all others including cell phones will run from there).I really hope Audible.com changes this so that those of us who do not have PCs can get the products. Until then, I plan to cancel my subscription.
