As far as vampire stories go, this one isn't very good. For chick porn, I'm sure it's excellent. The story is driven by predictable formulaic plot elements, and offers nothing new to the genre. The most unusual aspect of the story, from my standpoint, is that it was one of the only ones I've ever encountered that was far more interesting at the beginning than at the end - in fact, it's the first I've quit listening to when within 1.5 hours of the end.
This is the 1st book that I have listened/read by this author. Decent story, not profound but engaging. I agree with others who have commented about the annoying way the narrator voices some of the minor characters. Esp. Ziggy. very annoying. Other voices were not so bad, but that character was especially difficult to listen too. Also, if you listen to the second book, the voice of the "oracle" is hideous. But, it was short lived. I would recommend this series, even though I didn't enjoy the second book as much. Just realize it's not a profound piece, but as I indicated in the beginning of this review, book one of "the turning" was fairly engaging. Enjoy :)
I've read the other reviews and most are spot on about the narrator - every ancillary character is frankly cringe-worthy.
I feel like if I had read this in print it would have been better.
As for the claims of "porn" this book is pretty tame on that front.
I love vampire novel, so I jumped at the chance to purchase this audio book. It started out kind of slow. I actually turned it off after the first couple chapters. Out of lack of having anything else to do, I turned the audio book back on. I'm really happy I did. It got much better. These books are kind of a guilty pleasure for me. It's a decent vampire novel mixed with a crazy (in a good way) erotic scenes. I love the narrator!! She really defines each characters.
I quickly purchased the over two. I finished all 3 in about a week. I couldn't put them away.
If you like listening to graphical almost sexual detail on how much the protagonist likes to smoke this is the book for you.
But personally other than knowing that a character smokes for character development reasons, I feel that smoking is utterly useless in the telling of a story. I stopped listening to the story during one of these descriptions and never finished it.
Other than that the story was not bad and if I had been reading it I would have been able to easily skim over those paragraphs and probably would have finished.
I agree with the review by Painful - I stopped listening before the end of the first half even though I wanted to finish so as not to waste money. However, I reached a point where I couldn't listen to another word. I would like to have given it no stars.
